RONAN — The Ronan boys’ basketball team rebounded from a loss to Big Sky last Thursday to beat Mission on Saturday.

Big Sky opened the game with a unanswered six-point run before sophomore Marcus Hungerford put the Chiefs on the board with two free throws.

On the next play, junior Lucas Black got a breakaway for two more.

Down 6-15, junior Jarod Tanner started quick passing in the offensive zone and found Hungerford open under the net for an easy two.

Ronan started to work the ball outside before driving to the net. Tanner did successfully twice before Black hit a three-point shot.  Black hit both of Ronan’s three point shots, ending with 12 points. He also led with five rebounds.

To end the first half, juniors Justin Dustybull and Kevin Wroblewski passed back and forth before Dustybull went in for two points, as Ronan finished the half down by 10.

Ronan made 10 points in the third quarter before surging for 19 points in the fourth.

The Chiefs took that late momentum into their game against Mission.

Ronan was up by 10 at the half and increased the lead to 20 to win 48-28. With 19 offensive rebounds, the Chiefs dismantled Mission’s inside defense and were able to grab 19 offensive rebounds. Ronan was also able to force 27 Bulldog turnovers.

Black led Ronan with 15 points and Wroblewski added nine.

“Lucas Black came to play at both ends,” Mission head coach Lloyd Phillips said. “We didn’t have an answer for him.”

Ronan hosts Whitefish tonight and travels to Superior tomorrow.
