POLSON - More than 100 people attended the Archery Fair last weekend put on by the Mission Valley Archers at the Van Vost Farm near Polson.

"Some people travel all around the country for the 3D shoots," Mission Valley Archers board member Chuck Salois said. "We're more doing it for the family recreation reasons."

There were two courses with 40 targets of differing range.

"There's up and down and then there's flat," Salois said.

The targets ranged from 10 to 20 yards for young children, 20 to 30 yards for older kids and between 20 and 50 yards for adults.

A group of 10 people helped set up the event, complete with concessions on the Van Vost Farms.

"They were kind enough to let us use the land for the shoot," Salois said.

While the Fourth of July weekend may have prevented more out-of-towners from coming to the event, that didn't stop a reigning world champion, Chance BeauBauef, from attending.

"He isn't here to take our $50 knife for the trophy," Dan Ottum, Mission Valley Archers president, said.

The event was certainly youth heavy with 25 kids competing at the archery fair.

"We've got kids that have never shot before," Ottum said. "We have a very broad variety."

Some just got a bow, perhaps for Christmas. Some just picked up archery this spring as a hobby.

The proceeds from the event will go to help the 4-H shooting sports in the Mission Valley.

The archers have shoots twice a year, one in the spring and one in the fall.

"We change it around," Ottum said. "We don't do the exact course every time."
