Q & A: Best friends

The Lake County Leader sat down with the pitcher and catcher of the 12U Ronan Orange and Black Attack

Sam Colman pitches and Jordyn Clairmont are teammates and best friends. The Attack will compete at the state tournament next weekend.

How long have you been playing softball?

Sam: Seven years.

Jordyn: Five years.

How did you get started with softball?

S: My dad wanted me to start playing sports so I chose softball.

J: My mom and dad wanted to coach softball and wanted me to play.

What do you enjoy most about softball?

S: Pitching and just being out on the field, enjoying myself.

J: I like all of what softball is about. It's just fun [as catcher] because you can see what's going on out in the field. You can also give tips to your teammates on what the umpire is calling for strikes and balls.

What is your favorite subject in class?

S: History.

J: P.E.

What is your favorite food?

S: Tacos.

J: Spaghetti.

What other sports do you play?

S: Basketball and volleyball, but softball is my favorite.

J: Basketball, track and volleyball.

What is your favorite softball moment?

S: One time, I threw the ball up in the air and it hit me in the mouth. No one will ever let me live that one down.

J: We were playing Charlo in a softball tournament in Ronan, I hit a triple but I hurt my ankle and had to sit out for the rest of the game. We ended up winning 17-0, and 17 is my favorite number.

Who is your favorite athlete?

S: Cat Osterman

J: My sister, Courtney Clairmont.

What is your favorite team?

S: Team USA in softball, and the Arizona Wildcats.

J: The Pittsburgh Steelers.

Who is your best friend?

S: Jordyn Clairmont.

J: Sam Colman.

Why is she your best friend?

S: We have a bond since we're pitcher and catcher.

J: I've known her for a long time and we've gotten along well.

What do you do outside of the softball diamond?

S: I hang out with friends and family.

J: I love camping, swimming and hanging out with friends.

How much do you like softball?

S: I like it a lot, if it was the thing I had to do for the rest of my life, I'd probably do it.

J: I think softball is my second favorite sport behind basketball.
