Lake County

Pachyderm Club

The Lake County Pachyderm Club will be meeting on July 23 at Boettcher Park, Pavillion No. 1, at the "old nine" on the Polson Golf Course for a picnic to celebrate summer. Set up begins at 11:30 a.m.

The Pachyderms will provide hamburgers and hotdogs, and attendees are asked to bring a side dish or a dessert. Those attending are also encouraged to bring a friend. Pachyderms believe that the corrupting influences in America could be erased, and government generally made more responsive, by one basic improvement. All that is required is for more good citizens to participate in politics. "We get the government we deserve, not the one we wish for" remains a guiding star for a free people.

During the summer, Pachyderms are meeting once a month. In August, the meeting will be held on Friday, August 27. Beginning in September they will return to the regular schedule of meeting on the second and fourth Fridays.

Big Arm's 100-year bash

Big Arm will commemorate its 100 years from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 24 at the Historic School, located at mile 73 on Highway 93.

The events will include the infamous water-wars, good, old-fashioned family field games and living history inside the school.

At 10:30 a.m. Joyce Decker Wegner, local historian, will be giving a history of the old school. A great vintage car show will be from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., we will have a barbecue of brisket of beef, corn on the cob and all of the trimmings. Ticket sales will help pay for the restoration of the school.

We will have events for kids of all ages, including old time games such as egg and spoon races, three-legged races, a sawdust treasure hunt and the circle game. We look forward to visiting with you at the Big Arm Birthday Bash! We will also hold our annual water wars. These are the infamous wet battles on the plains of Big Arm instigated by our very own Despot Dictator, Paulus Maurus. People all over the County, indeed, maybe even the entire state, rave about these wars!
