Dixon senior news
With Martha Swonson: An important item to remember: Our Monday night dinners will be served at 6 p.m. (a change from 5 p.m.), beginning Monday, July 26. That means pinochle, which is on the fourth Monday, will start at 7 p.m. Lunch will remain at noon on Thursdays. See you then!
Menu for the rest of July: Thursday, July 22, roast beef; Monday, July 26, hot beef sandwiches; Thursday, July 29, baked ham.
Harley Hettick (Mr. Melon) reports that "Melons are looking really good, and I can't wait!" He said they could use some more 90-degree weather, so think of that if you're suffering from the heat!
I was proud to see that two of our seniors, Jerry Hamel and Vic Charlo, participated in the recent dedication of the tribal Eagle Circle memorial to all the tribal veterans who served in the military since 1877. It was a most awesome, patriotic and impressive ceremony. A perfect day, plenty of water available and bison stew for all. Yet another sight to wow your company! You really should make a stop to view this magnificent shining black marble monument at the Tribal Complex in Pablo.
The center could use some help with laundry duty. A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. We do appreciate all our volunteers! The Goulds and Tuflys report a very successful season of handing out cookies at Quartz Flat Rest Area on I-90. We had a couple marathon cookie-baking sessions at the center, which was fun and productive.
The last pinochole scores are: Bob Cook made the high score, Marlys Hoedt came in with low score, most pinochles was Carrie Faulkner, and the door prize was won by Ruby Macabee.
Check out the fresh foods and other offerings at the local Farmers' Markets in several towns. Check the newspapers for where and when!

Arlee senior center
The senior center has been busy providing concessions this past month at Arlee's two-day community play, "The Dixie Swim Club," as well as at the July 2 Farmers' Market. Baked goods were sold at the play. At the market, members sold burger, polish sausage and hot dog meals along with bottles of water and their own home-grown lettuce from the senior center garden. The center will again be selling food at the Farmers' Market, located in town on Hwy. 93 northbound, on Friday, August 6, so come on by!
The center will distribute commodities this month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 21 at the center. In order to take advantage of this free food program for low-income residents, you must complete an application and send it to the Council on Aging. Applications are available at the center.
The senior center garden is looking very good this year. Although we had a slow start with wet and cool conditions, the sunny, warm days are perking up the plants. In addition to heads of lettuce, we'll be pulling beets and carrots before you know it. The potato plants are blooming and so far no potato bugs in sight.
Seniors are invited to enjoy a nutritious meal at noon every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Meals are also served every second and fourth Saturday at 6 p.m. Each meal includes your choice of beverage (tea, coffee, juice or milk) and dessert. The menus are posted each month on www.arleemontana.org. You never need a reservation. Bring a friend along! If you have any questions, call the center at 726-3213.
Ronan senior center
With Linda Schoon: The month is already starting to wind down, as is the summer. Don't forget our roast beef birthday dinner at noon on Friday, July 30.
The Ronan center held its annual board meeting last Monday, and the following people were elected to serve as the officers on the board: Al Sampson is the president, Sherron Bowman is the first vice-president, Betty Corum is the second V.P., Jan Schmitz is the Secretary, and Auggie Peterson is our new treasurer.
We would like to welcome these people into their new positions.
Clarice Onsager is the retiring secretary, having served in the position for 10 years. We have appreciated all of her hard work and dedication to the center and hope that she enjoys her new free time.
A big thanks to LeRoy Lake for the donation of potatoes and to all who have so generously donated to the center.
We do not always get the names of people who donate to us, but we want you to know that we appreciate your kindness.
Our menu for the following week is: Friday, July 23, Hawaiian ham; Monday, July 26, barbecue beef; Wednesday, July 28, spaghetti; Friday, July 30, roast beef.
Come on in and join us for lunch and to visit with friends old and new.
Have a good week, and remember: Whenever you decide something with kindness, you have made the right decision.
