Baby Blanket Day a success

| June 17, 2010 2:08 PM

POLSON - St. Joseph Medical Center is honored to deliver about 175 babies each year. Each of those new babies is wrapped up in a special flannel receiving blanket to go home.

This year, St. Joseph hosted the eighth annual Baby Blanket Day on May 25. Sewers of all abilities were invited to bring their sewing machines or sergers to the hospital to sew flannel receiving blankets. Participants didn't need to have sewing skills to participate, as many joined in to help with pinning, cutting and ironing, among other things that needed to be taken care of.

Over 20 volunteers came to work and laugh together to make a whopping 210 receiving blankets. St. Joseph CEO and President James Kiser stopped in to thank the ladies for their hard work and admire the adorable array of beautiful baby blankets. A lot of thanks to everyone who contributed time and funding for this very worthwhile project was spread around.

Volunteers donate their time to sew these special blankets on a day each spring that we set aside to devote to making cuddly warm blankets.

The local Polson Soroptimist Club and the Parish Council of Catholic Women along with the St. Joseph Service League donate the funding to purchase bolts of baby flannel for this project.
