Child Safety Seat Check-Up

Polson - Buckle Up Montana will have Technicians' available to provide on site child safety seat inspections and education open from 10 a.m. to noon on May 20 at the Polson Fire Department. Installation will be reviewed for each child safety seat.

Arlee coffee house

At 6 p.m. on May 20 in the old Arlee High School gym, student projects will be on display from Arlee's shop classes and FCCLA state presentations. Please come and enjoy music by Arlee High School and Junior High School bands and choirs. Face painting and fish pond will be offered for Elementary students.

A special attraction will follow the student's performances by the Big Sky Mudflaps. Come and listen and dance and enjoy.

Shred day

Community Bank will be hosting their Third Annual Community After-Tax Shred Day, Friday, May 21. Everyday someone is a victim of identity theft. To protect you from this fast growing consumer fraud, a mobile shredding truck will be at our Polson branch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to shred two-file sized boxes of your personal documents. Benefit dinner

Please join us Friday, May 21 for a prison ministry benefit dinner (donation only) at the Ronan Alliance Church on Terrace Lake Rd. Wine reception

The Sandpiper Art Gallery and Gift Shop welcomes the public to a wine reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 21, for the new exhibit "Creative Collection" by artists John Davis, Nancy Gordon, Alice Varnum, Carol Daniels, Susan Evans, Marj Grinde and Barbara McCulloch. The showing will continue through June 26, 2010 at the Gallery in Polson.

The Red Poppy fifth anniversary

On Sunday, May 23, the Red Poppy celebrates its fifth anniversary by showcasing the work of art and pottery teacher, Olivia Lynn Olson. This year her show, Nature by Design, features plein air watercolor sketches developed into large acrylic paintings. Her show will be hanging in the gallery until the fourth week in June. On the stage at 2 p.m., Sam Taylor, violinist, and concertmaster of the Glacier Symphony, and Julia Borden, violist, will present a duet recital featuring works of Bach, Mozart, and Lidel.

Community Trails Open House in Arlee

The community is invited to attend a Jocko Valley Trails Committee "Community Trails Open House" in Arlee School's new lunchroom from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 24.

Learn about local trail plans, provide valuable feedback to the committee and meet the University of Michigan graduate students who have taken on the Arlee trail system as their research project.

There will also be a gallery of student work on display from workshops on trail development. Food will be provided to attendees so come on by and enjoy the evening. The Jocko Valley Trails Committee operates under the umbrella of the Arlee Community Development Committee.

District pow wow

The District pow-wow committee has met and decided that the District pow-wow will be held on from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25 on the practice field between the Polson High School and Middle School.

If there are any questions or comments please bring them to the next meeting, which will be at 3:45 p.m. on May 21 at the District Office.

Pop concert

The Polson High School Music Department will present the annual Awards and Pop Concert at 7 p.m. on Tuesday May, 25 at the PHS Auditorium. This concert is the concluding performance for both the band and choirs and will honor those students who have achieved excellence in their year of study as well as to say farewell to those who are graduating out of the Music Department this year.

Tickets for this concert are available from any music student. Tickets will also be available at the door and the proceeds help pay for the pop, awards and T-shirts each choir student will wear at the concert. The public is encouraged to attend and it is recommended that tickets be purchased from students so that student can get credit toward their T-shirt purchase. Any questions may be directed to the PHS at 883-6350.

Community dinner

Fellowship Baptist Church will be holding a free community dinner on from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27. All members of the community are welcome to join us. We will be having a chili feed with hot dogs and homemade deserts. We are located on the corner of 7th Avenue and Main Street. We hope to see you there.

Baby blanket day

Calling all volunteers who want to have fun spending a few hours doing something very special for newborn babies. It's Baby Blanket Day at St. Joseph Medical Center and you are invited from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28. This is the day we have set aside annually for the past eight years to sew receiving blankets to give to every baby born at St. Joe's and it is lots of fun.

Bring your sewing machine, serger, cutting mats and rotary cutters, iron and ironing board or just yourself to St. Joseph Medical Center second floor conference rooms.

Can't sew or be there all day? We can use your skills ironing, cutting and folding fabric too! Call to reserve your sewing machine spot. Lunch is provided for all volunteers. For more information please call Toni Young at 883-1676.

Lake County

Pachyderm Club

Greg Hobbs, owner of Absolute Cutting Tools, has located this specialty cutting tool business here in Polson and will be the guest speaker at the Friday, May 28 meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. Hobbs will describe his experiences he went through the start-up process.

His presentation includes interesting data on the U.S. machine tool industry as well as a video on machine tool manufacturing. He is expected to bring samples of the kind of products his company makes.

Anyone interested in learning more about a new business that is taking root in our community is cordially invited to the meeting which is held in the Community Room of the Polson City Library. The social time begins at 11:30 a.m., the business meeting starts at 12:05 and adjourns at 1 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.

Public meeting

At 6:30 p.m. there will be a public meeting held at the Polson Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints next to Super 1. Stephen Pratt, author, of ‘Liberty and Learning Constitutional Seminars' will present a program on "The Title of Liberty."

Monday, May 31

Lecture at Miracle of America

At 6:30 p.m., Steve Pratt will speak in the Miracle of America Museum's public meeting room. The lecture and power point presentation is entitled "The Unknown Republic".

McDonald Memorial Day Picnic

Families and friends of the Angus McDonald Family are invited to a potluck picnic get together at the Fort Connah Trading Post on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. The picnic will be from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

If the weather is bad, Leon Hall will be used as a back-up plan. Turn-off to the Fort is midway on Post Creek Hill. Leon Hall is one mile west of Highway 93 on Leon Road. The turn off for Leon Road is one fourth mile north of the Fort Connah turn off.

The picnic will be potluck. Please limit your dishes to one or more of the following: fried chicken, meat dishes, jello, potato salad, bean dishes, salads, rolls, butter, and soft drinks. Please bring your own utensils and chairs. Food serving tables and toilet facilities will be provided.

Please bring games for the kids and adults. Families will be introduced. A discussion of McDonald History will be provided. People are asked to share some of their family stories.

Citizens Acting for Liberty

Be sure to mark your calendars for a June 1 "Citizens Acting for Liberty" meeting in the Ronan Community Center. Stephen Pratt, Author, of ‘Liberty and Learning Constitutional Seminars' will present a program on "State Sovereignty." Stephen was mentored by the world renowned historian, author and lecturer Dr. W. Cleon Skousen. Steve's lecture will bring new feeling and purpose to the principles on which our nation was founded. We encourage families to attend.

Ronan promotion

Ronan Middle School 8th Grade Promotion will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1 in the Event Center. The middle school concert listed on the school calendar for this day will not occur because of the promotion.

Quilt Guild registration

Mission Mountain Quilt Guild's regular meeting will be June 1st at the Ronan Alliance Church starting at 6 pm. This is the registration meeting for the 2010-2011 year. Registration will start at 6 p.m., any one who registers and purchases their raffle tickets for the quilt show raffle quilt at this meeting or before will have their name put into a drawing for a very nice prize, "The Guild's First of many incentives for the new year. Don't forget to bring your TLC Blocks and the Block of the Month blocks to the meeting. Refreshments will be served.

training travels to Polson

Polson Chamber of Commerce invites all area businesses and organizations to attend the Montana Superhost customer service workshop "Passport to Service" at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, 49708 U.S. Hwy. 2 East in Polson on Tuesday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants in Passport to Service will explore ways to connect with customers, learn the characteristics of an effective travel counselor, identify resources available in their community and region, build skills for tactful and effective communication with challenging customers and co-workers, understand the economic impact of tourism in Montana, and commit to personal steps to make a difference.

This interactive training will involve exercises with direct application to tourism based businesses, a state highway map scavenger hunt, real-life service examples to examine, and scenario discussions to resolve service challenges. Glacier National Park gateway community participants will also learn about this year's centennial celebration and options to enjoy the park before and after the Going-to-the-Sun Road is open.

All participants are encouraged to bring brochures and information to share about their or others' businesses and organizations and will receive a certificate of completion.

Montana has an outstanding reputation for friendly people and is fortunate to have a comprehensive customer service training and visitor information program in place.

Valley View School

celebrates 100 years

Valley View School wants to invite all former students, teachers, and staff to a BBQ on the last day of school, June 3. Kindergarden and sixth grade graduation along with year-end awards ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. at the school. We'd like to invite former Valley Viewers to come, share stories and pictures of the school. After the awards will be a BBQ and picnic games. The school will provide hamburgers, hot dogs and fixings. Caregivers class planned in St. Ignatius

Powerful Tools for Caregivers, an educational class for family caregivers, will be given on Thursdays, May 27 through July 1, in the Lake County Bank in St. Ignatius. Each class will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is no fee for the classes which are sponsored by the Area 6 Agency on Aging in cooperation with the Montana State University Extension Program.

Roughly 22 million American households care for an adult with a chronic medical condition. Caring for someone can be physically, emotionally and financial draining. Through this class, caregivers can learn to care for themselves while caring for another person for the benefit of both.

Free yoga

Making Fitness Fun

Starting June 7, there will be a free youth program at Joe McDonald Fitness gym and will last until August 27. There is a possibility of free breakfast, from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and lunch, from 11 a.m. to noon. Supervision will be provided at Joe McDonald Fitness gym for youth seven-and-older for various activities. Stop in anytime, all summer long. Transportation will be provided to Ronan Boys and Girls Club at noon. Making Fitness Fun is designed to incorporate young kids in summer activities that are fun but used to improve their fitness levels. Its designed to keep kids busy and active during the summer.

Veterans affairs

On the second Thursday of every month, Andrea Montee, Service Officer for the Montana Veterans Affiars Division in Missoula, will be available to veterans and their dependents that have questions or need to file a claim with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. She will be in Polson from 10 a.m. to noon at the Polson senior citizens center and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Ronan at the Ronan senior citizens center. For more information, call 460-542-2501.
