ST. IGNATIUS - The Mission-Arlee-Charlo softball team won its play-in game against Eureka in a deciding fashion on Monday.

The Bulldogs 10-runned the Lions in five innings to earn a spot in the Western B-C Divisional Tournament.

Senior Katie McDonald hit an over-the-fence home run and drove in four runs to lead MAC to the win. Her sister, sophomore Janeal, went 2-for-2 with tow doubles and an RBI. Sophomore Bryanna Steele also drove in a pair of runs.

"We had some pretty good at bats," head coach Susan Weaselhead said. "Everybody did well."

Junior Kyla Olson pitched to every batter, and earned nine strikeouts, except the last one when Susan Weaselhead handed the ball to sophomore Loren Erickson.

"Loren did well," Susan Weaselhead said. "We wanted to get her some varsity time and save Kyla's arm for divisionals and state. Everyone's picking up their game now."

The Bulldogs will face Drummond at 11 a.m. on Friday in Thompson Falls. The two teams have played before, with MAC winning both games.

Susan Weaselhead expects the same results, but not to overlook them.

"It's a tournament, so you can never count anybody out," she said.

The winner of the Drummond-MAC game will face Loyola Sacred Heart.

Previous to the play-in win, the Bulldogs dropped a pair of games last week.

In a tight 1-0 game against Thompson Falls, the Bulldogs saw singles from senior Bella Dally, McDonald and sophomore Kinley Pope.

Junior Kyla Olson allowed only five hits last Thursday.

"It was a good game," Susan Weaselhead said.

Last Saturday, the scores of both teams were increased, but the outcome was the same.

In a 16-10 loss to Florence, both teams had 11 hits but Mission committed 13 errors.

"You just can't win with 13 errors," Susan Weaselhead said. "I'm glad they got that out of their system."

Senior Dalena Weaselhead went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Pope, senior Jasmine Gilleard and sophomore Serena Long each went 2-for-4 with Long logging a double. Olson registered two RBIs.
