It appears that Spring has come for sure in our area. I saved room in the garden for tomatoes, squash, and peppers just in case, but the other basics are in place. It's this comfortable time when the work is done and the weeds haven't yet come. I'm reminded of my dear old grandpa claiming, "Puttin' in the garden ain't no fun, ‘less ‘n you can fuss with someone!" If you've tried planting with another person, you may identify with this statement!

This is the season for celebrations: graduation parties, wedding receptions, reunions, meetings of all sorts. If you have need of a place to gather, consider renting our senior center, complete with a kitchen plus a dance floor. Call Mary Cole at 406-370-6184 for details.

This Sunday, May 23, at 2 p.m., the family of Franklin Kendall is inviting his friends to gather at the Dixon Senior Center, in his memory. Frank was a long-time member of our center, who always entered with a smile of good natured friendliness.

Another event coming up, on Saturday, May 19, will be the Dixon High School Reunion. Classmates will join in with the seniors to enjoy a dance beginning at 6 p.m. Please come and share the fun with music to dance to or just enjoy listening. Refreshments will be served, and a suggested donation of $5 is appreciated.

If you read this before noon on Thursday, you may have time to make it to our delicious Turkey Dinner today. Take outs are available.

Next week's menu is spaghetti on Monday, May 24. Lunch on Thursday, May 27, will be baked chicken. Breakfast or lunch items are available starting at 7 a.m. each day. I recommend Cook Abby's golden pancakes and crisp bacon! It was a delight the other day to have our former great cook, Edna Rice, visit our center.

We would like to give a big "thank you" to Tracy McDonald and the group of students from SKC that came and helped out around the Center last Friday.

They pulled weeds around the building, trimmed the roses and shrubs out front and washed the windows inside and out. We appericate all of their hard work, and feel really blessed by them.

The American Legion held their first breakfast at the center on May 15, and they had over 100 people who came in to eat. They plan on making this a monthly event, along with a silent auction, on the third Saturday. This is a fund raiser for them, and they, in turn, contribute to several worthy causes.

May 21 is our monthly birthday dinner at noon. Come on in and enjoy the food and the live music.

Our assistant cook, Kathy, is leaving at the end of this month, so if you know of anyone in need of a part time job, have them give us a call at 676-2371.

The COA is always looking for volunteer drivers, and also for people who need rides to appointments, etc. Give them a call (676-2368) if you can help or if you need their help.

We still have our recycling fund raiser going on. There is a drop off for aluminum cans behind the center.

Our menu for the following week is: Friday, May 28, is roast beef, Monday, May 31, we are closed.

Have a great Memorial Day, and remember that you are never to old to learn something new.
