St. Ignatius senior news

I'll attempt to fill in for Linda as she and her husband have gone to see their family in Washington. We trust they have a great time and a safe trip. We will be gland when she's back.

This past week my husband and I took 154 pounds of beverage cans to Pacific Recycling in Missoula, along with 35 pounds of pop can tabs, bringing back $88.13 to be shared between the center and C.O.A. This is just a reminder that we can recycle all beverage cans at the back area of the center anytime you would be so kind to leave.

Our assistant cook position has been filled by a young lady with the name of Brandie. We wish her well and I trust she learns a lot while training before Kathy Sweatt leaves to work permanently elsewhere.

If you are looking for a little something else to do during the summer months, give the C.O.A. a call at 676-2367 to volunteer to drive, do home chores and other things.

Menu: Friday, May 28, roast beef birthday dinner with cake, ice cream and music beforehand; Monday, May 31, closed for Memorial Day; Wednesday, June 2, spaghetti; Friday, June 4, soup and sandwiches.

At 10 a.m. on Monday, June 7, will be our regular monthly board meeting.

I cannot emphasize how many volunteers are needed and can be used in the community. We certainly appreciate them at the senior center. This last Tuesday at the Pablo Christian Church you wouldn't believe how many came to help with the senior commodities program. That was as many as I've seen for a long time, or ever. Thanks to all of you.

Polson senior news

With Jo Durand: Friday, May 28 is our monthly birthday dinner here at the center. We will be serving a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Hope to see you there.

I wanted to remind you that we have Paul Fugleberg's book "Among Other Things" and our own David Basta's "The Underside of the Mountain" here at the center for sale. Stop in and take a look.

We are still looking for volunteer help to deliver lunches and possibly other driving duties. If you have some time to give, give us a call here at the center at 883-4735.

Just a friendly reminder, that the center will be closed on Monday, May 31 for Memorial Day.

Now for some card scores. The bridge scores for May 18 had Stan Petersen first and Marilyn Griener second. For May 21 bridge, we had Stan Petersen first and Jack Rupe second. The Pinochle winners were Pete Daniels first and Bruce Elliott second. Those getting Double Pinochles were Bob Gorsuch and Pete Daniels and Alice Johnson got 1,000 aces. Way to go Alice.

Menu:

Thursday, May 27, chicken cordon bleu sandwich; Friday, May 28, birthday dinner; Monday, May 31, closed for Memorial Day; Tuesday, June 1, meat loaf; Wednesday, June 2, ham and scalloped potatoes.

Arlee Senior Citizens

The Arlee Senior Citizens Center board met on May 17 before the noon meal at the center.

It was reported that attendees at the May Lake County Council on Aging meeting were urged to check often on friends and relatives in nursing homes because it was found that aides are sometimes absent. Nursing home aides in Montana have one of the lowest wages nationwide but are often asked to provide more services than those in other states.

Under old business, the board approved the purchase of a new vacuum cleaner. Commodities were distributed at the center on May 19. This program affords low-income seniors food such as cereal, cheese, fruit juice and canned goods every two months. If you think your income may qualify you for this free program, call 726-3213 or visit the center for an application.

The board wishes to thank Blackfoot for conducting a morning and afternoon computer class for Arlee seniors at the center. It is much appreciated!

The Arlee Senior Center is a perfect place for bridal or baby showers, family reunions or any business meeting. The facility has a full kitchen and can seat 80 plus people comfortably. Call 726-3213 for rental details.

Seniors, enjoy the warm spring weather and get your gardens growing!
