Ronan

It is so hard to believe that November is just around the corner. Before we know it, the snow will be falling and Thanksgiving and Christmas will have come and gone.

The Ronan Center hosted the weekly card game on Mon., Oct. 18 with 21 people in attendance. Todd Myhre had the high score, Vi Hilfigure had the low score, Don Siers had the most pinochles and the door prize went to Carrie Faulkner. Lunch was served by Marlys Hoeldt and the senior center. These card games are held each Monday evening at the various centers. If you would like to join them, call your local center to find out where they are being held. Remember, you are never too old to get out and have some fun.

Tomorrow, Oct. 29, is our birthday dinner for the month of October. Come in and join us (and bring a guest) for a delicious roast beef diner.

Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The polls for the Ronan and Pablo areas are located at the Ronan Community Center and are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Don’t forget to bring your I.D. with you.

The foot clinic for Nov. will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

There are changes coming up in the Medicare supplemental insurance programs and we will be having people come in to explain them to you in the near future. We will keep you posted on the dates and times that they will be here at the center.

Our menu for the following week: Friday (Oct. 29) is roast beef at noon, Monday (Nov. 1) is porcupine meat balls, Wednesday (Nov. 3) is chicken and Friday (Nov. 5) is goulash.

The churches in Polson and St. Ignatius have been hosting weekly meals in their communities for quite some time now. Recently the Ronan churches decided to do this also, so on Tuesday, Nov. 2, they will host their first dinner. The notice that they gave us reads: “Shepherds Table is a group of local churches who are joining together to provide comfort to the area needy through a weekly meal. This meal will be provided free of charge from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Tuesday at the Ronan Senior Citizens Center located at 528 Main St, SW, Ronan. The first meal will be served Tuesday, Nov. 2. All in need of a meal or fellowship are welcome.” If you don’t know where the center is located, we are across the street from the hospital (as a note, these meals are held at the center, but are not sponsored by the center).

Have a good week and enjoy whatever is left of the good weather, and remember to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

With Martha Swonson: With new snow back on the Missions, below freezing nights, and Halloween everywhere, there’s no doubt it’s time to find all your winter clothing again! How about those outstanding larch trees showing yellow amongst the evergreens on the mountains?

I am grateful for the return of beautiful fall leaves, after last year’s early freeze which prevented one of the best reminders of fall. I was surprised to see mom’s amaryllis flower bulb from last Christmas just now starting to bloom where it was planted last summer! And the coming holiday season’s bulbs are already in the store!

Come treat yourself and warm up on this Friday night from 6 to 10 p.m., enjoy the October Dixon Senior Dance. Costumes would be fun, and are optional.

The AARP Safe driving class is just next week. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the senior center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is for any licensed driver and may reduce your car insurance. Bring your AARP card. The class is friendly and no-stress, so come refresh your mind with the latest driving information and learn what we can do to keep our communities safer. Please sign up at the senior center, or call me at 239-8638 to enroll. Bring a friend!

You can pay your center dues to Marie Ardis when you come for meals. This will be good for 2011. Our election of officers will be on Thursday, Nov. 18, so become a voting member by that date.

I happened upon a video of the Dixon Days parade on the computer. One of our residents posted it on Facebook, which brings you to the video on YouTube.com. Search for it under 2010 Dixon Days Parade. It’s amazing what you find! There’s even a Facebook site for the Malt Shop in St. Ignatius!

We are enjoying and appreciating some of the creative menus provided by our cook, Diane. For our recent Chinese lunch we were treated to delicious homemade egg rolls, complete with dipping sauce. Coming up meals will be: Monday, Nov. 1, Elk roast and banana creme pie; Thursday, Nov. 4, barbecue sandwich and brownies; Monday, Nov. 8, Fried chicken and surprise dessert; Thursday, Nov. 11, Chili, cornbread and cake.

Come eat out and bring your company or a neighbor. Dinner is Mondays at five and lunch is on Thursdays at noon.

Polson

With Cathy Corrigan: Wednesday, Nov. 3 is the toe nail clinic. It will go from 10:30 a.m. to noon. No reservation is necessary, it is first come first served.

See’s Candies are in here at the center. We have one pound boxes of dark chocolates, nuts and chews and assorted. They will go fast so come on in and get yours before they are gone. They make a real nice holiday gift.

Dennis Jones will be here during the lunch hour on Tuesday, Nov. 2 to give us a demonstration on his drug sniffing dog. This should be very interesting, so plan to attend.

Now for some card scores. The Bridge scores for Oct. 19 had Doris Gorsuch first and Max Neeley second.

Bridge scores for Oct. 22 were Millis Mielke first and Doris Gorsuch second. The Pinochle winners for Oct. 21 were Pete Daniels first and Lois Graham second.

Those getting Double Pinochles were Dee Adams and Pete Daniels.

Our luncheon menu for the dates of Oct. 28 through Nov. 3 is as follows: Thursday (10/28) baked chicken; Friday (10/29) soft shell taco; Monday (11/1) sausage gravy and biscuits; Tuesday (11/2) meat loaf; Wednesday (11/3) turkey noodle casserole.
