HOT SPRINGS - Charlo survived a scare against Hot Springs to win 3-2 last Tuesday night thanks to juniors Jazmine Hernandez Kelley and Deondra Brown. The Lady Vikings came from behind but picked up another District 10-C win, 14-25, 25-7, 17-25, 25-12, 15-7.

"We weren't really on top of our game," Sherly Kain said. "But Jazmine and Deondra stepped up for us."

Kelley led Charlo with 13 kills while Brown has nine and two blocks. Junior Kinley Pope also contributed mightily on defense with 21 digs.

On Thursday, the Lady Vikings swept a shorthanded St. Regis team 3-0. They had just six girls playing in the match.

"They just played all the way around," Kain said. "They did play well for not having their regular lineup."

Brown was once again solid for the Lady Vikings, tallying 14 kills. Junior Dawn Blevins also had 29 assists in the game.

Now Charlo will get ready for its rematch against Arlee tonight in a battle of the best in the conference. The Scarlets beat the Lady Vikings earlier this season and that has since remained their only conference loss.

"It would be nice to beat Arlee to get our confidence going," Kain said. "It would be helpful for the district tournament. It would be good to know we can beat Arlee going into it."

Think Pink

For Charlo's home games against Alberton on Oct. 18 and Lincoln on Oct. 20, the Lady Vikings will be wearing pink shorts for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and donation boxes will be set out for those hoping to help support the fight against cancer.

The Alberton game is at 7 p.m. and the game against Lincoln will start at 6 p.m.
