Ronan Senior Center

We’ve had several visitors at the center lately, and we would like to thank them for joining us, and to invite them back. We serve noon meals on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We also serve one evening meal a month, at 5 p.m., on the second Thursday.

We had 61 people join us for our chicken dinner last week. Our next evening meal is on Oct.14, and we will be serving roast pork.

The Council on Aging and the Senior Nutrition Program will be having a rummage sale later this month. It will be here at the center’s parking lot on Sept. 23 and 24. We are taking donations of things to be sold, and are willing to pick them up. Give us a call at 676-2367 or 676-2371 if you would like to donate items. You may also drop thing off here at the center.

The Sterling Insurance Group will be holding seminars here at the center. The first one is from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept 25. Come in and talk to them if you have any questions about supplemental insurance for Medicare.

Schedule: Monday, Sept. 20, cards at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 21, senior commodities; Wednesday, Sept. 22, foot clinic from 10:30 a.m. to noon; Friday, Sept. 24, birthday dinner at noon; Saturday, Sept. 25, Sterling insurance seminar from 10 a.m. to noon.

Menu: Friday, Sept. 17, tacos; Monday, Sept. 20, Calico beans; Wednesday, Sept. 22, salad bar; Friday, Sept. 24, roast beef birthday dinner.

Have a good week, and enjoy the cooler weather.

Dixon senior news

With Martha Swonson: At last, a bit of lovely fall is back! I was hoping it wasn’t over after a week of mostly rain. Maybe some of the garden produce will ripen more. A sure reminder, for me, that winter is approaching, is the annual two-day feast the cedar waxwing birds enjoy eating my mountain ash berries. I wouldn’t mind it much, but I would so like to photograph the beautiful red berries capped with snow. I notice many other trees that don’t get de-berried at all! Remember, it’s bulb-planting time, if you want some lovely flowers in the spring.

Another sign of fall is our first dance on Sept. 24. Come join some friendly, fun people from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Dixon Center. We’ll take a break for refreshments. Lots of good music with various instruments.

Another treat is to come share our new cook, Diane, creative, eye-appealing meals. All that was missing was some Mexican music at our lunch of enchiladas, corn fritters and crunchy cinnamon-sugared tortilla chips with all the extras. She used to run her own restaurant and she loves cooking. Come on out for dinner at five on Mondays and lunch Thursdays at noon. The menu for the rest of September will be:

Menu: Thursday, Sept. 16, hot beef sandwiches, potatoes and gravy, raisin salad, white cake with pistachio pudding; Monday, Sept. 20, spaghetti green salad, cookies; Thursday, Sept. 23, barbecue chicken, baked potatoes; Monday, Sept. 27, beef stew, fry bread; Thursday, Sept. 30, ham and potato soup, rolls, green salad, cake.

Remember also:  Pinochle is played at Dixon on the fourth Monday after dinner. The last scores were Louis Palmer as high scorer and Marlys Hoeldt came in low. Ruby Macabee had the most double pinochles, with Don Siers taking home the door prize. Also, we hope to have an AARP Safe driving class from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 9. This is for licensed drivers of any age, and may decrease your car insurance. Call Martha at 239-8638 to sign up or see the sheet at the Dixon Post Office or the Senior Center.

Recent seniors-on-the-go included Don and Joyce Siers who were off to visit their daughter, plus grand and great-grand children in Twin Falls, Idaho. Barbara Cripps had a great time flying to her grandson’s wedding in Worchester, Mass. She was enthusiastic, telling of her sight-seeing in Maine and Boston. These members winter over in Dixon, so it’s good to get away for a bit!

Polson Senior Center

We are still in need of volunteers. If you have some free time on your hands and would like to donate your time, give us a call here at the Center at 883-4735.

Now for some card scores. The bridge scores for Sept. 7 had Stan Peterson first and Marilyn Greiner second. Bridge scores for Sept. 10 were once again Stan Peterson first and Marilyn Greiner second. The pinochle winners for Sept. 9 were Claudia Marshall first and Ward Grilley second. Those getting 1500 Trump were Claudia Marshall and Carol Daniels.
