| August 24, 2011 12:27 PM

Leonard H. R. Salomon, 83, of Polson, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at St. Luke Community Hospital in Ronan.

Leonard was born in Polson on Dec. 23, 1927 to Peter A. and Anna Margaretha (Smith) Salomon. Heavy snow had drifted roads closed when the newborn baby and his mother returned to their farm home. They rode on the train to Salomon siding where Leonard’s father met them and took them home on a horse drawn sled.

As a young boy, Leonard enjoyed going to school in Polson. He graduated from high school in three years intending to join the service, but he learned he had to stay home to help his elderly parents operate the farm. Leonard drove horses, operated tractors, grew grain, hay and certified seed potatoes. He served on some county boards and was a member of the Arabian horse club and the potato growers’ organizations.

Leonard liked livestock and going to auctions where he would buy a cow or a bull that he liked and needed. Seeing friends at the sales was a highlight for him. Leonard also drove a school bus for five years and greatly liked this job, especially getting to know the kids who rode the bus.

Leonard worked for nine years at the former Polson plywood mill.

In the early days the hunting trips he went on with his brothers were unforgettable times. He also enjoyed fishing.

Leonard married Patricia Greene on March 26, 1956 at the Lutheran Church in Pablo.

Leonard is survived by his wife Pat and two sons David and Dennis, all of Polson. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Dylan, Andrew, Savannah, Sammy and Nicolas. His parents, five brothers, Tom, Karl, Pete, Harry and Alfred, and five sisters, Alvina, Viola, Bertha, Myrtle and Angela, precede him in death.

The highlight of his life has been his grandchildren, who are so dear to him. He loved the Lord, his family and his friends. He felt blessed by having such a wonderful family. He loved his good times with relatives and their families. These times were always the most special for him.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Polson. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Polson.
