WRESTLING: Valley teams shine at Polson Invite

POLSON - Mission Valley teams showed up and performed well

against a field of 14 teams, placing high within their

classifications.

Polson finished fifth in the overall tournament with 95.5

points, which was the second-highest finish by a Class A team.

Corvallis finished second with 171.5 points.

Right behind the Pirates in sixth was Ronan, which was the

highest finishing Class B-C school with a score of 75.

Mission-Charlo was just behind by one point in seventh with 74

points. All the Mission Valley B-C teams were higher than any other

A or B-C school except for Polson and Corvallis.

Class AA Glacier took first with 221.5 points.

Polson dominated the 112-pound category with Carlos Quinones pinning Gavyn Wilson from Frenchtown in 3:46 for first place. Fellow Pirate Taylor Martin took third with a pin over Wade Gascon of Thompson Falls 1:15 into the match.

Dylan Moll placed fourth in the 119-pound category.

In the 125-pound category, Polson's Craig Feistner was narrowly edged by Class AA Sentinel's Alek Mitchell in the championship match, 4-2.

Mission-Charlo's Scotty Gilleard advanced to the 130-pound championship match and was beat by points, 12-6, by Sentinel's Brandon Edwards.

At 140 pounds, Polson's Alex Nystom was in the championship match was downed by Jackson Barber from Glacier via technical fall.

Ronan's Nat Brooks placed fourth in the same weight class.

At 160 pounds, Mission-Charlo's Jacen Peterson took second, losing via a decision to Corvallis' Riley Nagel. Ronan had both wrestlers in the third place match with Dustin Goldsby winning a 7-2 decision over Quenton Denton.

Mission-Charlo's Baret Sargent made the championship bout at 189 pounds before falling via decision to Hamilton's Forest Fortney.

Ronan's Colby Roberts made the 215-pound first place match before being pinned by Sentinel's Jayden Wilson. Chad Anderson took fourth for Mission-Charlo in the same weight class.

In all, seven different wrestlers from the Mission Valley made it to the championship match, while another seven made the third place game in their respective weight classes.
