Alfred Hermie Clair Hermanson
Alfred “Hermie” Clair Hermanson passed away in Helena on Dec. 7, 2011. Hermie was born in Big Timber on Feb. 13, 1926 to Alfred and Almeda Hermanson.
Hermie spent two years in the U.S. Navy stationed in New Guinea during World War II. After his military service, Hermie returned to Helena and met his wife, Jacque. They married in Helena on July 3, 1946. They had one son, Mike. Hermie spent most of his career in the grocery business.
Hermie was a meat cutter and store manager for 25 years with Safeway in Billings, Butte and Laurel. He also worked for Ryan’s Warehouse in Billings and for Walmart in Gillette, Wyo. and Polson, Mont. Two of the highlights of his career was running his own grocery store and owning and operating a one hour photo in Gillette.
One of Hermie’s biggest hobbies was traveling in his many RVs. One of his fondest memories was his trip to the World Series in 1972 with his good friend, Tom, and brother-in-law, John.
In retirement one of his greatest pleasures was gardening. Hermie is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jacque, as well as his son Mike (June), his grandchildren Gene (Jennifer) and Chanda and great granddaughter Ellee. Hermie is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sisters Genevieve and Evelyn and brother “Buster.”
