CHARLO GIRLS BB ROUNDUP: Clamping down
ST. REGIS - Through four games this season, the Charlo Lady
Vikings aren't just winning, they're destroying opponents.
In fact, in 16 quarters of action, they've shut out opponents as
many times as they've allowed double digits: once.
After a weekend in which they outscored Victor and Darby a
combined 115-36, the Lady Vikings kept it going with a 58-19
shellacking of St. Regis on Thursday, Dec. 15. Rachel Hoyt led all
scorers with 17 points, but seven other girls put up points,
including Deondra Brown with 11, Dawn Blevins with eight and Aspen
Runkel with seven.
ST. REGIS - Through four games this season, the Charlo Lady Vikings aren't just winning, they're destroying opponents.
In fact, in 16 quarters of action, they've shut out opponents as many times as they've allowed double digits: once.
After a weekend in which they outscored Victor and Darby a combined 115-36, the Lady Vikings kept it going with a 58-19 shellacking of St. Regis on Thursday, Dec. 15. Rachel Hoyt led all scorers with 17 points, but seven other girls put up points, including Deondra Brown with 11, Dawn Blevins with eight and Aspen Runkel with seven.
Charlo led 16-6 after the first quarter before shutting out St. Regis 11-0 in the second to build a 27-6 lead at halftime. They cruised from there, outscoring the Lady Tigers 31-13 in the second half for the win.
We're not giving up a lot of second chance opportunities to score," Charlo head coach Bret Thompson said. "We're limiting the ones they are getting. Some of the offseason work is starting to pay off. We're a little stronger and faster."
Kinley Pope and Jordan Ludeman each added five points for the Lady Vikings, Derika Stipe added three and Sienna Brown two in the victory.
On Saturday night, Charlo was able to hold down Lake County rival and host Mission Lady Bulldogs early to post a 51-24 win, moving to 4-0 on the young season.
The win was aided by a quick start for the Lady Vikings, as they raced out to a quick 15-3 lead after the first and never looked back.
"We didn't miss very much offensively," Thompson said. "We didn't give up a lot of easy shots either. That combination worked really well for us."
Mission was able to score 11 points in the second quarter, the first time Charlo allowed that to happen this season, but the Lady Vikings still held a 31-14 halftime lead.
Charlo used a 12-3 third-period run to widen the gap and help ensure victory.
This time, it was Brown leading the way, scoring 14 points, while Hoyt contributed 11 and Ludeman and Pope nine each.
"It seems like every night, it's someone different," Thompson said. "Early this season Rachel had a good night, the next night was Kinley. In the St. Regis game, Dawn had a better offensive night. Against Mission, Deondra had a great night."
Thompson is happy with where his team is as the calendar gets ready to turn.
"We're healthy and everyone is getting playing time, so we're moving along well," Thompson said.
The Lady Vikings faced Noxon on Tuesday night, but results were unavailable at press time.
