POLSON — The Polson Airport recently placed a large sign on the exterior of the pilots’ lounge to welcome visitors to Polson.

Polson is known in the aviation community as a friendly place to visit and summer visitation is on the increase. The availability of airport courtesy cars adds to the hospitality of the area. From the middle of June until Nov. 1, 2011, the two courtesy cars were used 98 times. Besides visitors from elsewhere in Montana, pilots arrived from Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Washington, plus the Canadian province of Alberta.

Visitor information pamphlets for food, lodging and area attractions are conveniently located in the pilot’s lounge. Also available are restrooms, vending machines, ice, brewed coffee and a computer for flight planning.

The four by six foot sign was made by Kara Bishop of Bishop Sign Works. Kara donated a third of the cost of the sign. The balance was paid for using funds from the profits of the Polson Fly-in, thanks to the support of many members of the Polson business community.
