ST. IGNATIUS — For at least the second time in 2011, the St. Ignatius police force has been reduced to one with the resignation of its Chief of Police.

According to St. Ignatius mayor Charlie Gariepy, the current chief resigned to pursue other interests.

In the meantime, the remaining officer on has been named acting Chief of Police and Gariepy hopes to have a second officer hired by the end of the month.

For now, St. Ignatius is receiving help from area officers to serve and protect.

“I have an officer working and I have Tribe and county backing me up until I get somebody back in here,” Gariepy said.
