Dixon

As I am writing this, the snow has returned to our “Banana Belt” area just west of Dixon, and once again it’s sticking to my deck and yard. It seems to encourage the birds to come fill up, as I attempt to count them for the Great Backyard Bird Count over President’s Day weekend. Did you know that, statistically, the most commonly-counted bird is the Canadian Goose?

If you yearn for a winter break, with fun, music and good company, come on over this Friday, Feb. 25, for our first dance in quite awhile. It starts at 6 p.m. You can count on good snacks and lots of great music by the Little Big Band.

The Dixon center will be having a Fish Fry Fundraiser on Saturday, March 5, from 12 noon-2 p.m.. Bingo will follow. Come and bring your family for a yummy, healthy Saturday lunch!

The Dixon Ski Club recently held a Sweetheart Dinner for the public; the meal was delicious and each lady received a long-stemmed carnation. Don and Joyce Siers were seen enjoying a night out at a table-for-two. Thanks to the school for providing this pleasant evening!

News of our most-senior, seniors: Allene Cole took a fall at home and broke her left hand. She is healing well and is not too disabled by the mishap. Betty Wetzel has been “under the weather” recently, but she did get out to walk a bit between thaws, and is now feeling better.

Remember, takeout is available. Dinner is served at 5 p.m. on Mondays and lunch is served every Thursday at 12 noon. All ages are welcome. Membership dues are payable to Marie Ardis.

Menu: Thurs. 2/24, tacos; Mon. 2/28, boiled ham and cabbage

Ronan

I hope that you had a nice Valentine’s day. A big thanks to the bakers and buyers who made the COA’s bake sale such a success. They really appreciate all of your help. Part of this money will go to the MediCar transportation program. They always need volunteer drivers, so if you would like to help, call 767-2368. You can also help out by providing transportation to seniors who need to go shopping or attend a medical appointment.

The card parties are going great, and they will next meet at the Ronan Center on Monday, March 7, at 2 p.m. Our monthly board meeting will be held Monday, March 7, at 10 a.m. If you are a board member or alternate, please attend the meeting.

The Shepherds’ Table is still going strong on Tuesday nights at 5 p.m. The churches sponsor these wonderful meals. The churches do not charge for the meal, but they do accept donations.

The Center and COA are continuing to accept aluminum cans. The money from these donations go to maintaining various programs at the center and throughout Lake County. The drop off spot for the cans is located behind the Center.

Don’t forget our birthday dinner on Friday, Feb. 25. Join us for some good meals and great visiting. We have bingo following lunch on Mondays and Fridays and the pool table is always open. Have a nice week and let’s hope for some warmer weather!

Menu: Wed. 2/23, ham and scalloped potatoes; Fri. 2/25, roast beef; Mon. 2/28, chili; Wed. 3/2, BBQ pork ribs; Fri. 3/4, turkey casserole.

The toenail clinic will be here on Wednesday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. It is a first come first served basis.

Don’t forget that Friday, Feb. 25 is our monthly birthday dinner and blood pressure clinic. Come in and have your pressure taken by Shirley, and enjoy a lunch cooked by our great kitchen staff, Wanda and Kelli.

I talked  with Jo just the other day and she said to say ‘hi’ to everyone. She is having a great time in Arizona, but she misses everybody and will be back in late March.

We had some sad news here at the Center. Our staff volunteer Don Basta passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, Feb. 16.  He took care of our aluminum recycling and will be missed here at the center

The hearing clinic will be on Tuesday, March 1, from 9-11 a.m.; it will return Tuesday, March 29.

Now, card scores.  In the bridge game held Feb. 11, Donna Cason took first and Millie Milke and Max Neeley tied for second. On Feb. 15, Jack Rupe won first and Dean Greiner second. The Pinochle winners for Feb. 17 were Alice Johnson in first place and Lois Graham in second.  Those getting double pinochles were Bruce Elliott, Alice Johnson, and Lois Graham and Duane Johnson twice.

Lunch menu: Thurs. 2/24, sweet-n-sour meatballs; Fri. 2/25, roast beef for birthday dinner; Mon. 2/28, baked cod; Tues. 3/1, meat-loaf; Wed. 3/2, chicken enchiladas.

St. Ignatius

AARP volunteer Kay Stamm will be giving free tax filing assistance to St. Ignatius senior citizens on three Tuesdays in March. Stamm will be in the St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center on March 1, 15 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are required and you may stop by the center or call on Tuesdays and Fridays to schedule one.

The center will hold its annual spring rummage sale April 5-9. We are now accepting gently-used items for the sale. We are also accepting quality items for our Silent Auction, which will be held in May.

For more information about the center and its activities, call the center at 745-4462 or Mack McConnell at 745-4151 or write to St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center, Box 758, St. Ignatius, MT 59865.
