Merle D. Schumacher

| February 25, 2011 8:30 AM

Merle D. Schumacher, 93 years old, passed on in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. on Feb. 11. She was born to Clarence and Julia Vert in Big Arm, one of nine children. There are two brothers still living, Wesley Vert of Polson and Harold Vert of Beaverton, Ore.

Merle married Frank Schumacher on Oct. 12, 1935. He preceded her in death after 67 years in 2002. Merle is survived by daughters, Darlean Cook of Lake Havasu City and Sheryl and Bob Reese ofCornelius, Ore.; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Merle loved golfing all her life. She golfed with the Niners at London Bridge Golf Club and the Queens Bay Queens at Bridgewater Links Golf Course. She also loved her exercise at Curves six days a week so she always loved exercising up to March 2010 when she got sick. She volunteered at the senior center and belonged to the Elkettes. She always modeled in both fashion shows yearly.

“Mom, you inspired a lot of women in this town to find time for sports and exercise regardless of age. I’m sure you are being missed as a model golfer and a very active interesting nearly 94-year-old woman. We will all miss you as someone to brag about!”

Donations will be gratefully appreciated for all the help they were during her illness to Hospice of Havasu, PO Box 597, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86405. They were wonderful and always there for any problem. Thank you.
