Dixon
It’s pretty quiet here in our little valley this week. Just waiting for the next snowfall and enjoying the birds gobbling at the feeders. I am grateful for the clear main roads this winter.
Karen McCullough and I enjoyed a whole Saturday judging the recent Speech, Drama and Debate meet held at Ronan middle and high schools. All the students were able to get here safely from various towns in Western Montana. It was a very uplifting, happy experience to see what these young people can accomplish. They were neatly dressed, practiced and very polite. Judges are much appreciated, and this opportunity comes each year.
The first dance of the new year is scheduled for the last Friday, Feb. 25. The Little Big Band will entertain us with lots of dance-able tunes, or just sit and enjoy listening to songs from the past. Refreshments will be served, and the hours are from six until ten.
We will truly miss our friend and great humanitarian, Lewis Palmer. He could be seen all over the valley, in many communities, attending whatever functions/fundraisers were going on. He used to come in our garden club’s annual flower show laden with some of his beauties to share. My favorite visual is of he and brother, Del, dressed as very “lovely” ladies at the Dixon Senior Halloween party one year. His 93 years were a blessing to us all.
Come join us for meals on Mondays at five and noon on Thursdays. Here’s what’s on the menu: Mon. Jan. 31: Stuffed peppers, Thurs. Feb. 3: Meatloaf, Mon. Feb. 7: Minestrone soup and sandwiches.
Ronan
Monday, Feb. 14 is Valentine’s day, and we will be having a special dinner here at the center. So, bring your sweetheart (or best friend) and join us for a chicken dinner at noon.
The Ronan Senior Center hosted the weekly card party on the 17th with 23 people present. Todd Myhre had the high score, Ruth Krantz had the low score, Millie Bradley had the most pinochles and Grace Sager won the door prize. Lunch was provided by Grace and Ruby.
The card party time has been changed to 2 p.m. to make it easier for people to attend this winter. The Ronan Center will again host the card party on Feb. 7, and again on Feb. 21. The monthly Board meeting will be on Mon., Feb. 7 at 10 a.m.
The Veterans rep will be here on Thurs., the 10th from 1 to 3 p.m., and our monthly evening meal will be that day from 5 to 6:30 p.m. We will be serving pork roast. As with all of our meals, it is open to the public.
The Shepherd’s Table is each Tuesday (5 to 7 p.m.) here at the center. This meal is provided by local churches at no cost and is also open to the public.
Our menu for the following week is: Friday the 28th is our birthday dinner of roast beef, Monday the 31st is chicken, Wed. the 2nd is beef stroganoff, and Fri. the 4th is soup and sandwiches.
Have a good week, and hope that the worst of the winter is over with.
