POLSON - The Polson 10U All-Stars showed their bats at the Firecracker Tournament up in Kalispell last weekend. They started things off in pool play on Friday with a 7-7 tie against Whitefish.
"We actually had the lead for most of the game," coach Pete Plant said. "Whitefish just had a good late rally."
Zach Evertz and Joseph Renault combined to pitch the entire game for the all-stars. The next day, Polson made sure there was no such chance for a rally, defeated Lethbridge AA 15-1.
"The kids played outstanding," Plant said. "Every kid hit the ball well."
On the mound, Bo Kelley kept Lethbridge in check for three innings.
"Bo did a fantastic job, he basically shut them down for three innings," Plant said.
Nate Plant pitched in relief and the result was the same. Momentum continued to roll for Polson, who disposed of Chewelah 8-3 in the late game on Saturday. With Evertz on the mound, the team from Washington State couldn't get anything going.
"Zach pitched the entire game and shut that team down to nothing," Plant said. "It was a fantastic pitching display. He's probably one of our top pitchers on the team."
The 10U all-stars faced Lethbridge AAA on Sunday morning in championship play, but fell 10-0.
"They had a very good pitcher," Plant said. "He was very fast."
That would wrap up the tournament for the all-stars, who will now be heading into the postseason with some high hopes.
"Each tournament we're seeing more and more improvement," Plant said. "Every kid has been improving and playing good defense."
Polson is now 6-6-1 on the year.
