Are you ready to buy a boat yet? They keep telling us the nicer weather is on the way, but so far we haven’t seen much of it. And the new snow that keeps showing up on the Missions isn’t helping things either. At least we aren’t flooding or getting blown away by tornados, and that is something to be truly thankful for.

We hope that both George and Earl are doing better and out of the hospital by now, and we’re glad that Marie is feeling better and back to coming in to join us here at the center. No matter when it is, it is never much to be sick, especially since we are too old to miss school.

Please be extra careful when you are driving, even on the city streets. The area schools are out for the summer, and therefore, there are more kids out and about.

The veterans rep will be here on Thursday (9th) from 1 until 3 in the afternoon. No appointment is necessary.

Our next evening meal is also this Thursday, and we will be serving roast pork. We serve from 5 until 6:30 p.m.

The Ronan center will host the card party on Monday the 20th at 7 p.m. If you like to play pinochle, come on down and join them. This is a weekly game, and rotates between the centers at Ronan, Mission, Charlo and Dixon. Any and all are welcome to attend.

The next foot clinic will be on Wednesday, the 22nd, from 10:30 until noon. So, come on in and get your tootsies taken care of and join us for lunch afterwards. We well be serving lasagna that day.

The Bread Basket is always in need of glass jars with lids, quarts or smaller. They can also use smaller cardboard boxes. They can be dropped of at the Bread Basket from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. If you are overloaded with fresh produce from your garden, please consider donating it to your local senior citizens center or food pantry. Both places can always use the fresh produce and will greatly appreciate your donations.

The Shepherd’s Table is still going strong here at the center on Tuesday evenings. They serve form 5 to 6:30, and the ladies (and gentlemen) from the local churches are sure doing an outstanding job of cooking. There is not a charge for these meals, but donations are always appreciated.

Our menu for the following week is: Wednesday (8th) is spaghetti, Thursday (9th) is pork roast at 5 o’clock, Friday (10th) is chicken a la king, Monday (13th) is cheeseburgers and Wednesday (15th) is Swiss steak. We play bingo after lunch on Mondays and Fridays, and we have a pool table that is always ready to be used. Come on in and join us for a great meal, and to shoot pool or play bingo afterwards. We are always happy to see old friends and to make new ones.

Have a great week, and don’t forget to do a kindness for someone else, without expecting to be rewarded for it.

Dixon

As I write this, it appears the weatherman may be right about warming for the weekend. I am SO eager to finish planting my garden with squash, peppers and more tomatoes, plus many already-purchased flowers. Even though many of us have been quite impatient, we realize how much worse off we could be this spring. The birds and the rhubarb seem to be flourishing, and aren’t we glad for perennial flowers, which come through no matter what the weather? Yes, I know, dandelions are perennial, too, but don’t they brighten up the spring?

June is time for the Dixon seniors to get to baking cookies to take to the rest areas to please the travelers. I’ve been too hot, and too cold out there, but it’s always enjoyable. People really appreciate home-made cookies and friendly conversation. We’ll be baking at the center, starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 10.

Ron and Norma Trammell were recently visited by their foster daughter, Sharon Needham and her friend, from Winter Haven, Fla. This was the first time in 30 years that they had seen each other, and they had a grand time visiting and seeing the sights! Sharon and her husband have a successful business in Florida, and have three grown sons. We have such natural beauty and other sites and events that are special to our area — it’s fun to see it through the eyes of visitors.

Remember our center if you are looking for a good meal at noon on Thursdays, and 5 p.m. on Mondays. The food is yummy, ask anybody who’s enjoyed a meal here! Here’s some dinners for the next few weeks: Thursday, June 9 chicken and dumplings, Monday, June 13 spaghetti with meat sauce, Thursday, June 16 roast beef; Monday, June 20 shepherd’s pie; Thursday, June 23 ham.
