Just a friendly reminder that the AARP Driving Course is on Tuesday June 21 at 9 a.m. The next course will be on Tuesday, August 16. There are still a few spots open for the June class, so give us a call and we’ll get you on the list. The center number is 883-4735.
We would like to thank Julie for all her hard work in the flower beds here at the center. Some how when the weeds are gone from the garden it starts looking like summer might actually be on the way.
Our relief driver and all-round good guy, Paul, has been under the weather the last few weeks and we would like to let him know that our thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery are with him. We miss him and haven’t had a good story for a while so get well and get back here.
And last but not least, Miss Betty, “Happy, Happy Birthday” from all of us here at the center. We hope you had a marvelous day and wish you many, many more!
Now, for some card scores. Bridge scores for June 9 had Win Baer and Marilyn Greiner tied for first. The pinochle winners for June 9 were Pete Daniels first and Jan Kasehke second.
Luncheon menu: Thursday 6/16 Sweedish meatballs; Friday 6/17 Wanda’s Chili; Monday 6/20 taco salad; Tuesday 6/21 baked ham; Wednesday 6/22 barbecue sandwich.

Ronan
I have decided not to complain about the weather this week, since we really have it quite good. After all, we could be blown away by tornados, or chased out by fires or floods.
The Ronan center will be having the weekly card party here on Monday, June 20 at 7 p.m., and the foot clinic will be here on Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m.
If you need meals delivered to your home, please give us a call Linda at 676-2371 to see if you qualify for our Meals on Wheels program. We offer home delivered meals to seniors living within a six-mile radius of the center. We serve meals here at the center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at noon. We also serve one evening meal a month, at 5 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month. People of all ages are welcome to come in and join us for any of our meals. We are now able to use the SNAP program to pay for your meals here at the center. If you would like to know more about this, please come in and see Linda, or call 676-2371.
Our menu for the following week is: Friday (17th) is taco soup and bean and ham soup, Monday (20th) is salmon patties, Wednesday (22nd) is lasagna, and Fri.(24th) is our Birthday dinner and we will be having roast beef. Come on in and join us.
The Council on Aging can always use volunteer drivers to take seniors to various appointments, so if you want to help them, give Jan a call at 676-2368. They provide the car and the gas, all you need to have is the time and the desire to help them. The center and COA is still collecting aluminum cans to be recycled and there is a drop off spot behind the center. All of the donations that have been received have been greatly appreciated and the funds have gone to keep various programs going for Lake county seniors.
The Shepherds Table is still serving wonderful meals here at the center at 5 p.m. on Tuesday nights. So, come on in and join them for some food and fellowship.
Happy Fathers Day to all you dads and granddads out there, and isn’t is nice that summer is just a few days away? Have a great week.
Arlee
If you’ve driven through Arlee last week, you may have noticed our brand-new Arlee Senior Center signs at the Post Office on 93 north, in front of the Center and above our fence on 93 south. Special thanks to Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative for their grant to replace the old signs and for a new “sandwich board” that will announce meal menus and special events at the Center.
Thanks go again to Blackfoot for the free computer class they held at the Center a few weeks ago. It was well attended and I’m sure many Seniors left with new-found computer know-how!
The Arlee Senior Citizens board of directors met on June 6 and reviewed the 2011-12 budget. Federal funds have been reduced more than anyone anticipated so this will be another tough financial year for all the centers.
The menu for the last two weeks in June is as follows: Friday, 6/17 – Meatloaf, baked potatoes, green salad, fruit, buns, apple crisp; Monday, 6/20 – Oven fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots, buns, fruit cocktail bars; Wednesday, 6/22 – Braised beef over noodles, corn, buns, fruit, cake; Friday, 6/24 – Polish sausages, oven potatoes, sauerkraut, fruit, buns; Saturday, 6/25 (at 6 p.m.) – Pork chops, potatoes and gravy, spinach, buns, rhubarb crisp; Monday, 6/27 – Sweet and sour chicken over rice, tossed salad, fruit, buns, cookies; Wednesday, 6/29 – Cook’s choice.
See you at the center for a nutritious meal and good conversation.
Dixon
Another sign that the summer season is approaching — several senior members just finished making, baking and packaging well over 100 dozen yummy cookies to share at the rest area on I-90 this week. We’ve got the routine down well after several years. Thanks so much to all who helped this project get ready. It’s worth it to experience the delight when travelers stop for real homemade cookies, coffee or lemonade and conversation.
Those who came to lunch last Thursday learned something new! A group of NARCOA (North American Railcar Operator’s Association hobbyists were happy to find a tasty meal just up from the Dixon rail line. A large group of 25 RV’s with the historical rail maintenance motorcars towed behind, were enjoying the lovely ride to Paradise, back to Dixon, and then to the East. There are over 1,800 members, who take excursions all over North America, legally “riding the rails.” Now who knew about that?
There’s more good meals for the rest of the month. Come join us for: Thursday, June 16, spaghetti; Monday, June 20, Shepherd’s Pie; Thursday, June 23, ham; Monday, June 27, Salisbury steak; Thursday, June 30, chicken with rice.
We’ll be expecting you on Monday at five o’clock or lunch on Thursdays at noon. The next pinochle session at our center is June 27 after dinner.
