LIBBY - The Mission Valley Mariners (10-15) got something going in both games of their doubleheader against Libby last Monday, but it wasn't quite enough to get two wins.

In the first game, Austin Von Tom pitched well and held the Loggers to just four hits, but the M's were held to the same hit total and didn't get on the board until Justin Evertz drove in a run in the top of the seventh.

Libby won 4-1 after scoring three in the bottom of third and one in the fourth.

For the second game, both teams were more active at the plate and Mission Valley notched seven hits while Von Tom and Evertz both drove in runs.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Mission Valley took the lead with three runs, but Libby would answer back with four in the bottom of the frame to clinch the win, 7-3. The Mariners also committed four errors in the contest.

On Wednesday, June 8, the Mariners got to work early against the Class AA Kalispell Lakers, taking a 7-0 lead after just two innings. The Lakers, who just had player Joe Pistorese drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 2011 MLB draft,

scored five in the bottom of the second. Mission Valley held onto the lead until the bottom of the sixth when Kalispell added four more runs and took the 11-8 advantage.

Michael O'Connell doubled four times and went 5-for-5 in an eye-popping performance for the Lakers.

After the first three innings, the Mariners were scoreless and the Lakers picked up their 16th win of the season, 13-8.

Jack Humphreys hit a double against the Lakers and also drove in two runs.

Jake Young, Evertz, Chris Clary and Josh Rustad all had RBIs in the game as well.

The Mariners will be back in action this weekend at the Maybelle Arthur Tournament in Dillon. They also have a stretch of the season coming up where the remaining 10 of

their scheduled non-tournament matchups will be against conference foes.
