Marilyn Joan Burrowes Obituary

Marilyn Joan Burrowes, 82, of Polson, passed away on March 12 at The Pines in Polson.

Marilyn was born on Nov. 3, 1928 in Miles City, Mont., a daughter of Benjamin and Verna Hamilton. The family also included a brother, James L. Hamilton. She moved to Polson at the age of 10 and attended local schools, graduating from Polson High School in 1947.

Marilyn married James Wendell Burrowes on Nov. 28, 1947 in Polson and she operated the Valley View and Kerr Dam school bus route for the Polson schools for over 25 years. She was a dedicated Bluebird, Campfire Girls and Boy Scout leader for her children’s troops for many years.

She loved her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, fishing, camping, playing pinochle with friends, and especially cooking and spending time with her family. Marilyn and Wendell spent many hours with their antique cars going on tours and participating in parades with their car club friends. She was a member of the South Shore Garden Club, The VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary, and the Big Sky A’s Antique Car Club.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wendell; a daughter, Linda (David) Weaver; a son, James (Laura) Burrowes, all of Polson; six grandchildren, Kristina (Mike) Landfried, of Spokane, Wash., Malena Weaver of Kansas, Rick Weaver of Oregon, Brianne Burrowes of California, Mara (Cale) Fitzgerald of Helena and Kaitlyn Burrowes of Polson; five great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Keith (Beverly) Burrowes of Billings, a sister-in-law, Mildred Wood (late husband Forrest Wood) of Boise, Idaho, seven nieces and one nephew.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Eugene Burrowes.

Marilyn’s wish was for memorial donations to be made to the Mission Valley Animal Shelter, 239 Reservoir Road, Polson, MT 59860, or to the donor’s choice.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 18, at 10 a.m. at Grogan Funeral Home, 101 Sixth Ave. E., Polson. The Rev. Paul Rowold will officiate and a dessert reception will follow the services at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place and Marilyn’s ashes will be interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Polson immediately following the reception.
