Polson Soroptimist announce awards
POLSON — Soroptimist International of Polson is part of a worldwide service organization for women helping women, who are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential.
The local club, started in 1979, has been raising money locally for scholarships and causes that help further projects that help women and girls. At their recent annual Awards Banquet over $10,300 was given out in scholarships and grant awards.
In addition to the individual scholarships, Soroptimists International of Polson awarded grants to several local charitable organizations for programs that support women and girls. Grants included Doves - $1,000: In support of its Women’s Domestic Violence Support Group. Mission Valley Friends of the Arts - $300: Scholarship funding for girls to attend summer theatre camp. Lake County Public Health Department - $500: In support of the Maternal Child Health Home Visiting Program. Family Matters - $1,000: In support of their day of girls empowerment and leadership workshops and Share the Spirit - $500: In support of grocery vouchers included in Christmas care packages for needy families.
The local Soroptimist Club raises most of their money at the annual Wine Festival which is scheduled for August 13. For further information, contact chairperson Gerry Browning, 883-2668.
