Arlee

The Arlee Senior Center is thinking spring and hoping to enjoy sunshine and warm temperatures soon. Get those cool-weather vegetable seeds planted inside now so you’ll be ready to plant outside once freezing weather is over.

The center invites the community to a combination yard sale/baked goods sale on Sat., May 14, at the Center on Wessinger Street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Support our Arlee Seniors with your attendance.

In April, the center will have bingo after the 6 p.m. meal on Sat., April 23. Maximum 6 cards per person. It’s the day before Easter so stop in for dinner, conversation and bingo.

And remember, you don’t have to be a Senior to enjoy a good meal at the Center.

Call 726-3213 if you have any questions.

We would like to acknowledge two young men from our community. Their names are Dylan Kelly and Will Davey.

We had some pretty bad drainage problems in our crawl space and they volunteered to come down and help Dave and Paul solve the problem. They were in cramped quarters and had to dig out three deep holes in some pretty nasty clay, but they got right in and stuck to task and got the job done.

We would like to thank you gentlemen very much and to keep up the volunteer work. I think we need to hear of the good things that the youth in our community is doing and not just the bad.

Eddie and Gracie Schumacher will be celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary here at the center on April 2, from 1 to 4 in the afternoon. It is for all of their friends, family and acquaintances. So please stop in and wish them another 75 years, they’ll be glad to see you.

The toenail clinic will be on April 6 from 10:30 to noon. No appointment is necessary, it’s first come , first served.

Now, for some card scores. Bridge scores for March 18 were Bob Gorsuch first and Marilyn Greiner second and March 22 had Dean Greiner first and Doris Gorsuch second. The pinochle winners for March 24 were Carol Daniels first and Mavis Repnak second.

Luncheon menu: Thursday (3/31) baked chicken; Friday (4/1) sausage gravy and biscuits; Monday (4/4) soft shell taco; Tuesday (4/5) meat loaf; Wednesday (4/6) ham slices.

March is on its way out, and it’s been refreshing to see signs of spring through the blustery wind and scattered showers. It was an encouraging sight to see the many crocusses in bloom in front of the Hair Shrink in St. Ignatius, birds returning for the spring and looking for housing, watching the bulbs getting taller each time you check!

Our corned beef dinner crowd on St. Patrick’s Day was jovial, as we read Irish Blessings to all, and joined Jerry Powell as she began singing “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” It’s nice to have some “highway men” drop in for lunch when they’re working in our area. We all appreciate the delicious meals served at our center.

Coming up, the menu is: Mar. 31, cabbage patch stew; April 4, smorgasbord!; April 7 spaghetti; April 11 chili dogs; April 13 roast pork dinner.

All ages are welcome to join in meals — Mondays at 5 p.m. and noon each Thursday. Take outs are available.

The next senior dance is scheduled for April 28, at 6 p.m. — mark it on your calendar!

St. Ignatius

It’s not too late to donate items to the St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center annual spring rummage and bake sale April 5 through 9. The bake sale will be held on Friday, the 9th. Donations of good rummage sale items may be dropped off at the center. The center will add a second evening meal monthly, beginning in April with the Easter dinner.

The following are the April activities at the center: March 31, quilters, 10 a.m.; April 1, meatloaf lunch; April 5-9, rummage and bake sale; April 5, BBQ beans and ham lunch; April 6 roast pork dinner, 5:30 p.m.; April 7 quilters, 10 a.m.

Bingo is played after almost every lunch.

For more information about the center and its activities and services, call the center at 745-4462 or Mack McConnell at 745-4151 or write to St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center, Box 758, St. Ignatius, MT 59865.

Have you noticed that the flowers are finally starting to grow and the trees are starting to bud out? We even had some Buttercups blooming at our place. They are usually a sign that spring is finally here. Anyway, compared to the rest of the world, we have it pretty good here.

Board members (and alternates) don’t forget the board meeting is on Monday, April 4 at 10 a.m.

There were 22 people at the last card party here at the center. Lunch was served by Martha Allen and Vi Hilfigure, and Martha also won the door prize. The most pinochles were made by Grace Sager, Darlene Salomon had the high score and Knight Weber had the low score.

The next card party at the Ronan Senior Center will be on Monday, April 4 at 7 p.m. Please note that they have decided to go back to playing in the evenings, and the time change will have started on the 28th of March.

The last day to get your taxes done here at the center will be on Friday, April 8. We still have spaces open for that day, so give us a call at 676-2371 to make an appointment.

The date for the AARP Defensive Driving Course (55-Alive) is getting closer. It will be held on Monday, April 18, and is a one day course. Give the center a call and we can sign you up to attend it.

We will be having our Easter dinner at noon on April 20. We will be serving ham, so please plan on joining us, and bring a friend.

A big thanks to all who helped to make the Council on Aging’s spaghetti dinner fund raiser such a success. Everyone did a great job, and the COA is really grateful for all the help. With so much going on last weekend, they were very pleased to have such a good turn out. They will be hosting a Mother and Daughter luncheon in the near future, and I will keep you posted on that.

Our menu for the next two weeks is: Wednesday (30th) is chicken, Friday (April 1st) is salad bar, Monday (4th) is hot roast beef sandwiches, Wednesday (6th) is sloppy joes.

Have a good week, and get out and enjoy the nicer weather.
