POLSON - Polson swept both boys and girls' duals with 6-1 scores last Saturday against conference foe Columbia Falls.

"I think it was our best day of the year," Pirates' head coach Bob Hislop said. "We got a full week of practice in and there were some signs that there was some major improvement."

The boys saw singles wins from Dylan McCrumb, Andrew Storro and Sam Kinzle. Polson swept doubles action with wins by Justin Evertz and Will Davey at No. 1 in a tight 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory. Brady Hislop and Ian Laimbeer won in the No. 2 spot and Reed Hovenkotter and Sam Peel won at the No. 3 slot.

"I think we're in a good place doubles-wise," Hislop said.

It came against a balanced Columbia Falls team that should be considered a contender, along with Polson, in the divisional tournament this year. The girls also pulled out a important win over the WildKats.

Whiteney Zimmerman defeated Gabrielle Stenger in the No. 1 slot, 6-1, 6-4 and should be one of the top seeds in divisionals along with teammate Kendyal Rochin for singles action.

"She's played fabulous (at No. 1)," Hislop said of Zimmerman. "She's done well, and as a sophomore, there is

always more to learn."

Rochin won at the No. 2 spot, while her sister Karly picked up a win at the No. 3 singles spot. Hislop said that the big match of the day was Kenzie Clay and Jordan Quinn's big 6-4, 6-3 victory over Columbia Falls' Lexie Bartkoski and Marissa Getts.

"Kenzie and Jordan were the big win in girls doubles," Hislop said. "(Lexie and Marissa) will be the No. 1 seed in the divisional tournament. That's a big deal we needed a signature match for the season."
