Victor Lefthand

Victor Lefthand, 80, of Elmo, Mont., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at his home in Elmo.

Victor was born on April 26, 1931 in Nirada, Mont., a son of the late Basil Lefthand, Sr., and Coomsah Morigeau.

He attended school at the Ursuline Academy in St. Ignatius. He later went on to join the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War where he was a two Bronze Star recipient.

On June 9, 1951, he married Mary Louise Couture in Kalispell. Mary later passed away in 2007.

He was a driller during the construction of Libby Dam and worked as on highway construction with the Montana Department of Transportation.

Besides his parents, and wife, Victor is preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Ruth Lefhand and Harriet Lefthand, and a brother, Samuel Lefthand.

Survivors include his two daughters, Verna Lefthand and Lauren Lefthand; five sisters, Saraphine Bufton, Amelia Lefthand, Anistasia (Ruby) Finley, Susan Dowdall, Mary (Pooyah) Lefthand and Dianna Andrews; three brothers, Nick Lefthand, August Lefthand, and Basil Lefthand, Jr.; a grandson who Victor raised like his own son, Brandon James; and two great-grandchildren, Olijah and Tyrell James.

Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, 6-8 p.m. at Grogan Funeral Home, 101 Sixth Ave. E., Polson. Rosary was recited at the funeral home, beginning at 7 p.m. Burial followed at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 at the Elmo Cemetery.
