POLSON — Because it is much more enjoyable to begin stringing Christmas lights before the snow begins to fly, the Beautification Committee of Envision Polson! is announcing its plans for a community-wide holiday decorations contest early.

The first annual “Celebrate the Season of Light” begins Monday, Nov. 28, when entry forms will be available at local banks. The contest is open to residences, businesses, churches, and neighborhoods if there are at least three residences participating.

Judging will take place the evenings of Dec. 11-16. One winner will be named in each category and will be awarded with a “winner” yard sign. Judges will look for the best use of theme, lights, and “green” decorations (using recycled items or a nature theme), originality, and overall appearance. Winners will be announced on Friday, Dec. 16.

Committee chairman Jackie Cripe said, “People don’t need to go overboard on outside decorations. It isn’t always the displays with the most lights that are the most attractive. We hope people will be creative and use what’s on hand. The purpose of the contest is to express the joy of the season as well as community pride. Let’s make Polson beautiful!”
