We would like to thank Fran Basta for all of the volunteer work she has done on mowing our lawn here at the center. She always does a great job and thanks also to her sidekick that does the trimming and edging.

Dixon
What a beautiful introduction to the fall season! I’ve spotted few changes in color on the trees and bushes, but there are many signs of summer leaving. The stink bugs are looking in the windows for a winter retreat.
Notice how some flowers have perked up from the August heat? This was a great year for ripening tomatoes, peppers (I actually got some red and yellow ones!), and even more zucchinis. Even the geese are honking their way south, and hunters have blasted away at the Ninepipe refuge. Ahhhh, let’s hope this weather stays around for a long while.
I returned from a delightful trip to the Oregon coast, reuniting with four high school friends. We grew up in Juneau, Alaska, so always meet after the summer cools off. Oregon is mighty close to NW Montana for a special place to be. (The downside to the coast would be the tsunami evacuation signs everywhere!) I got my fill of fresh seafood — what a treat. Somehow public conveyances are no longer a fun way for me to travel — I’d prefer a companionable driver/rider to explore the sights with.
Flu shots will be available at the center in Dixon on Thursday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. until noon. Seniors, bring your Medicare card. I had my shot today and didn’t feel a thing! Stay for lunch with us at noon.
Thursday, Oct. 13 will be an election of officers All paid members are eligible to vote, and stay for lunch.
High scorer at pinochle last month was Bob Cook. Joyce Siers was low scorer. Darlene Salomon had the most pinochles. The winner of the door prize was Don Siers. This traveling group of players meet at Dixon on the fourth Monday each month, at 6:30.
Meals for next week will be: Thursday, Oct. 6 beef stew; Monday, Oct. 10 chicken and noodles; Thursday, Oct. 13 roast beef; Monday, Oct. 17 Sloppy Joes.
Reminder — send in your comments and the survey regarding the possible closure of the Dixon Post Office right away.
