ST. REGIS - Led by Becca Nelson's 10 kills and Cortney Dix's six aces, the Arlee Scarlets dominated the host St. Regis Lady Tigers 25-7, 25-17, 25-22 on Thursday, Sept. 29.
"Our attitude was the key," said Arlee head coach Brian Big Sam. "We're working on keeping a positive attitude the whole game and we did that."
Dix also added 21 of the Scarlets' 25 assists while Mahalia Hendren notched three of Arlee's eight blocks.
The Scarlets dominated the first set, establishing the tone for the straight sets victory.
"That was very important," Big Sam said. "We've been working on a few things to see if we could accomplish what we wanted to and we did."
St. Regis was able to compete better in the second and third sets, but the Scarlets were able to stave off each Lady Tiger rally.
Arlee had the advantage over St. Regis in nearly every stat line, especially digs (63-26) and aces (17-7). The Scarlets also nearly doubled the Lady Tigers in kills (33-17) in a complete team effort.
"They were all pretty good," Big Sam said. "They all contributed in different ways. It was really good to see."
Arlee goes back to a busy week of work, however, as they face Lincoln on Thursday before hosting the Spike It Tournament over the weekend. Big Sam feels confident in his players as long as they keep on having fun on the court.
"If they stay positive and be happy, they're fine," Big Sam said. "That's all I can try to stress."
Arlee heads to Lincoln for a 5:30 p.m. matchup before their Spike It Tournament on Saturday.
