Ronan

Have you ever had a deadline to meet and several hours later you realized that you hadn’t met it? I did, and that is why there was not any Ronan Senior Center news in the papers last week.

There are several things ongoing on here at the center in the next couple of weeks, and hopefully I remember to put them all in.

Thursday, Oct. 13, the veteran’s rep will be here from 1 until 3 in the afternoon, and that evening we will be having our pork roast dinner from 5 until 6:30. The meal is open to the public.

Friday, Oct. 14, we will be having a flu and pneumococcal shots clinic from 1 until 2 in the afternoon. These shots are both covered by Medicare, so bring your cards with you. If you don’t have Medicare, there is a cost for flu and pneumococcal shots.

Wednesday, Oct. 19, is the monthly foot clinic from 10:30 until noon. You don’t need an appointment for this, but due to changes in the program, there are only 10 slots available.

Our menu for the following week: Wednesday (12th) is stew, Thursday (13th) is pork roast at 5 p.m., Friday (14th) is Swiss steak, Monday (17th) is porcupine meatballs and Wednesday (19th) is chicken.

Don’t forget the Ronan Community Blood Drive on Monday, Oct. 17, from 1:30 until 6 p.m. This will be at the Ronan Parish Hall on Round Butte Road. To schedule an appointment or get more information, contact Adina Fox at 675-3580.

Polson

The veteran’s aid will be here on Thursday the 13th from 10 a.m. to noon. If you have any questions or concerns come on in and they will get you squared away. No appointments are necessary.

We are having various Medicare update meetings here at the center. There will be someone here on Monday the 17th, Wednesday the 19th and Thursday the 20th. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to come in and attend a meeting. On the 17th and 19th the meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and on the 20th it will be at 1:30 p.m.

Another reminder that there will be an AARP driving class here at the center on Tuesday the 18th starting promptly at 9 a.m. If you want to take this class be sure to call and get signed up. Our number is 883-4735. Also on that note, there will be a free driving class for all veterans and their spouses sponsored by AARP on Nov. 3. If you are interested in this offer give us a call at 883-4735 and we’ll get you signed up.

Now, for some card scores. Bridge scores for Sept. 30 had Millie Mielke first and Chuck Aker second and for Oct. 4 Dean Greiner was first and Ruth Baer was second. Pinochle scores for Oct. 6 were Dwight Graham first and Alice Grilley was second. Alice Johnson and Dwight Graham had 1,000 aces. Way to go!

Luncheon menu: Thursday (10/13) French dip sandwiches; Friday (10/14) chicken enchiladas; Monday (10/17) Wanda’s Chili; Tuesday (10/18) roast pork; Wednesday (10/19) spaghetti.
