Warrior RB Zach Tameler wows Arlee crowd in home opener

ARLEE - When the Lincoln Lynx ran the football back for a touchdown on Friday night's opening play, it didn't faze the Arlee Warriors one bit.

On their very next possession, senior Zach Tameler broke loose, running for 68 yards and a touchdown. But things quickly turned south for the Warriors who were kept scoreless until late in the fourth as Lincoln continued to rack up the points, eventually taking the game 58-14.

Arlee fell to 0-2 with the loss as the Lynx moved to 2-0 in the Western C division. Despite the score, there were bright spots for the young Warrior team. Clayton Tremble and Lane Wilson were forces for Arlee on defense. Tremble made eight tackles and Wilson added six tackles, five for a loss.

Tameler ran a total of 13 times for 117 yards in the game.

"[Zach] is probably one of the better running backs in the conference," head coach Mike Rogers said. "We haven't shown it yet - we've had guys not eligible, guys missing practice - but he's a good running back."

Starting quarterback Cody Sheradin left the game after a hard hit in the third quarter, but according to Rogers, he'll be back to spearhead the Warriors' homecoming attack next week against Philipsburg.

Replacing Sheradin was junior Christian Haynes, a player capable of wearing many hats.

"He's a wide receiver, backup quarterback, safety, defensive back - he's a do it all for us," Rogers said.
