MISSOULA — The Mission Lady Bulldogs tennis team battled hard against Loyola on Thursday, March 29, but the hosts prevailed, downing Mission 6-1.

The win wasn’t as easy as the score would indicate, however, as the Lady Bulldogs gave Loyola a run in a few matches.

Sarah Bowers continued her impressive start with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kelly Eppard. Second singles player Jane Makepeace lost 7-6 (2), 6-4, but pushed Jocelyn Caldwell to the limit in a match that could have gone either way. The same could be said for third singles player Cierra Dougherty, who gave Erin Flint all she could handle, losing a heartbreaker 6-3, 2-6, 11-9. Blair Ahlborn won a couple games, but fell to Olivia Round 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles action, Kayla Billette and Randi Butterfly struggled to get momentum going and were defeated by Loyola’s top doubles team of Callan Haggarty and Allison Sawyer 6-0, 6-0. Mission’s Alexis Paul and Laura Eggeling earned a pair of games, but Emily McCue and Angela Holter earned a 6-1, 6-1 win. Paul also teamed up with Cecelia Koskela for a match, but Shannon Eppard and Megan McCue earned a 10-4 pro set win.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Ronan Maidens on Tuesday, April 3, but results were unavailable at press time.
