President’s lecture
Artist, poet and educator Karen Goulet will give a lecture titled: “Navigation and Negotiations in Creative Space at the SKC President’s Lecture Series from 12-1 p.m. at the Arlee/Charlo Theatre in Pablo. Goulet is an enrolled member of the White Earth Ojibwe Nation, received her BA in fine arts and cultural education from Evergreen State College, her MFA in sculpture from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and her master’s in education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Video presentation
Life For the Nations Christian Fellowship in Ronan will host a creative six-session video presentation from Family Life Today on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21. If your marriage needs help, or just a recharge, call Pastor Frank Cummings for information at 676-0601.
Romp in the Arts
The Miracle of America Museum is sponsoring “A Romp in the Arts” on Saturday, April 21 from 8-5. In the morning, over 25 pieces of mostly whimsical sculpture art by metal sculptor Gil Mangels will be featured before the afternoon session features guest artists who will exhibit and demonstrate in the public meeting room. To exhibit or learn more, call 883-6804 or 883-6264. Displays and exhibitors are encouraged to be family friendly.
Mission Earth Day
The Students Serving Community Club will host an Earth Day in St. Ignatius on Sunday, April 22 from 1-4 p.m. at the Good Ol Days Park. There will be informational booths, poster contests and prizes for middle and elementary school students, food, crafts and entertainment. They are also encouraging people to bring in their recyclable materials, as they’ll have a drop off in the field.
Magazines for troops
Polson High School Key Club is sponsoring a fundraiser and box sponsor drive for Magazines for Troops on Sunday, April 22 at Wal-Mart.
Candidate forum
The Polson Education Association will host a School Board Candidates forum on Tuesday, April 24 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the high school library. The candidates for three trustee positions in District 23 are incumbent Caryl Cox, John Kelly, Jamie Hamel, Ashleu Schweigert, Ivy McGowan and Michael Leadercharge. Bob Hanson and Andrew Learn are running for one position in the high school district. Questions submitted by Polson District employees will be asked of all candidates and were made available beforehand. Candidates will also answer audience questions, as time allows and the public is encouraged to attend.
SI input sought
The Polson School District Board of Trustees has selected McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development to assist them in the important task of selecting superintendent candidates for the board to interview. The consultants will be meeting with community members on Wednesday, April 25 from 5:30-6:15 p.m. in the Polson High School library to gather input regarding the qualities of the next superintendent. This meeting is open to any patron who wishes to provide input.
Community showcase
The St. Ignatius Schools will host their annual community showcase on April 26, with the emphasis on the Graduation Matters Montana program being instituted in St. Ignatius. The evening begins with a complimentary spaghetti feed from 5-6:30 p.m. in the elementary school multi-purpose room, with a wide variety of displays, activities and presentations running from 4:30-7 p.m in locations throughout the elementary, middle and high schools. Denise Juneau, Montana Superintendent of Schools, will also make a presentation.
Big Arm potluck
The Big Arm Association is holding its monthly potluck on April 27 at 6 p.m. in the historic school. Please bring your favorite food and your friends. After the potluck our guest speaker will be Dr. E B Eiselein to talk about Montana’s Indian history pre-1805. Dr. Eiselein has written over 20 books about Indian culture, history and spirituality. Please come to this very informative and enjoyable presentation and while there, look at the improvements to our school. We look forward to seeing you.
Golden Loon
Over 100 K-6 Ronan and Pablo students will perform “Indy and Anna Jones and the Golden Loon” in the Ronan Performing Arts Center on April 27-28. It promises to be a swashbuckling story of treasure seeking, special effects and clever twists that will keep young and old entertained from start to finish. Lots of action, fun and frolic for the entire family.
Donations needed
The Valley View Women’s Club is having its spring rummage sale May 5 from 10-2 at the Valley View Clubhouse 40762 Valley View Rd. We are in need of non-clothing items please. To donate for drop off or pick up call Donna 883-5529, Karen 883-1232, Linda 883-0540. No donations after April 30 please. We will be at the clubhouse Friday, April 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. and Saturday the 28th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for drop off. Thank you for the support.
Equine expo
Friends of the Fairgrounds will host an Equine Expo on Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Ronan Fairgrounds. The expo includes showcases every 30 minutes featuring different disciplines such as cowboy mounted shooting, western dressage and ranch horse roping, among others. Bird day celebration
The National Bison Range will celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 12 with the theme of Connecting People to Bird Conservation. The big event of the day is the opening of Red Sleep Mountain Drive for the summer season. The refuge will conduct a beginning bird walk at 9 a.m. and at 5 p.m., wildlife photographer and author Donald Jones will lead a wildlife photography activity.
