Polson

Just a friendly reminder that on Friday the 17th we will be having our Banana Splits for lunch desert for our yearly membership drive.  Plan to attend for a delicious meal and a chance to pay your next years dues and have a Banana Split on us.  Dues are still $15.00 a year per person.

We would like to thank Michael Corrigan and Mason Cates for painting our Senior Citizens sign and for mowing and weed eating around the building.  It’s nice to have some young people who like to lend a helping hand.  You are very much appreciated.

The list is filling up for the AARP Driving Class, so if you are interested in taking this class give us a call at 883-4735 and we’ll get you on the list.  Remember that if you are employed by your local school system this class will only cost you $5.00.  So give us a call!

Election of officers will be held during the birthday lunch on August 24th.  Be sure that you come and join us for lunch and vote on the officers for the up coming year.

I guess that this is all for this week so everyone have a really great one and we’ll talk again soon.

Now for some card scores.  Bridge for August 3rd had Dee Petersen first and Stan Petersen second and on August 7th Ruth Baer was first and Dee Petersen took second.  There was no Pinochle played this week but will be playing next week as scheduled.

We had 50 people turn out for our pork roast dinner last Thursday. We appreciate all who made the effort, despite the heat.

The foot clinic will be this week, on the 15th, from 10:30 until noon. You don’t need an appointment and it is free, although donations are accepted to offset the cost.

The “Senior of the Year” dinner is that same day, at noon. We will be serving baked chicken and all that goes with it. So come on in and help us celebrate with Moe.

The accessory sale is this week in, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.. This is a great time to get rid of all the excess hats, scarves, shoes, jewelry, etc, and to make a little money doing so. The tables are only $10.00, and we still have some available.

The card players will meet here on Monday, the 20th, at 7 p.m.

Our fall rummage sale is set for Thursday and Friday, the 6th and 7th of September. If you have anything to donate to the sale, you can bring it into the Center at any time. If you need someone to pick it up, give us a call at 676-2371 or 676-2367, and we will make the arrangements for you.

Our condolences out to Dr. Loren Evan’s family. Doc passed away early Thursday morning, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Our menu for the next week is:

Wed.(15th) is chicken, Fri.(17th) is baked fish and mac ‘n’ cheese, Mon.(20th) is BBQ pork ribs, Wed.(22nd) is tater tot casserole, and Fri.(24th) is four varieties of pizzas.

Come in and join us, our meals are served on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at noon, and on the second Thursday of the month, at 5 p.m.

Dixon

Summer delights include our local Dixon melons, Flathead cherries and other fresh produce available at stores, stands and farmers’ markets throughout the area. This is a good time to have several out-of-state relatives visiting. Fortunately there haven’t been close forest fires and smoke to hide the beautiful Mission Mountains. With plenty of shade, water, and A/C, this hot summer has been quite do-able. There’s more coming!

Senior Allene Cole celebrated her 93rd birthday this week, with her 3 daughters, several grandchildren and other relatives at the wedding of her great-great granddaughter, Allena, held in the Willows near Charlo.

Be sure to note--Monday meals are now served at 6 p.m. Lunches remain at noon on Thursdays. All ages are welcome to  join us. For the rest of the month meals are:

Thurs.  Aug. 16  Beef Stew

Mon.    Aug. 20  Reuben Sandwiches

Thurs.  Aug. 22  Sweet-Sour Chicken

Mon.     Aug. 27  Lasagna

Thurs.  Aug. 30  King Ranch Chicken

The fourth Monday pinochle players will be meeting in Dixon at 7 p.m., after dinner.

Mark your calendars to include a trip to Dixon on August 25 for Melon Day, to attend the parade at 11 a.m., and the Dixon Senior Dinner soon after, as well as many other events. The melons are ready now, and in the markets.
