Holiday Treasures a hit
RONAN - Frigid weather conditions couldn’t deter a crowd from assembling in the middle of Main Street on Saturday in Ronan, as dozens of people turned out to try their luck at this year’s “Holiday Treasures” drawing, sponsored by the Ronan Chamber of Commerce.
According to a letter from the Ronan Chamber, the annual promotion “is a way of expressing appreciation to patrons for shopping in Ronan year-round as well as during the holiday season.”
Individuals were able to collect raffle tickets by shopping at numerous participating small businesses leading up to the drawing. Shoppers were given one ticket for every $2 they spent at each location. By Saturday, thousands of red tickets tumbled around as the crowd waited anxiously to see if they were in for an early Christmas gift.
Robin Nelson, a committee member from the Ronan Chamber, said that approximately $4,500 of donated items were given away at Saturday’s event.
Keith Lundvall was one of many faces in the crowd that went home happy. Lundvall was the proud winner of a set of gleaming new drill bits.
Without even leaving their package, the drill bits were garnering rave reviews.
“It’s so functional!” said Lundvall’s sister, Charel Montana, who joined him at the drawing.
Win or lose, Montana said, “it’s fun to see the community out and about.”
“The drawing has always brought people from all over,” Montana said of the strong attendance and support for the event.
Another drawing is to be held on Main Street next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
