RONAN — It was a big weekend for the Maidens, as the team successfully closed out two closely-matched games for victories, besting Florence 74-69 after three overtime periods on Friday and Eureka 57-52 on Saturday.

After trailing the Falcons 32-21 at halftime on Friday, Ronan ignited for a huge second half, outscoring Florence 35-24.

Leading the way in Ronan’s resurgence was Raymi Clairmont, who would finish the night with an incredible 29 points.

Despite the Maidens’ offensive explosion, however, the teams ended regulation tied at 56.

What followed was a tense, three-period stretch of overtime play that went back-and-forth throughout.

In a scary moment for the Maidens, the Falcons’ Paige Bodner came away with a steal, taking it back the other way for a score to put Florence up 62-60 with little time remaining in the first overtime.

However, Clairmont would come up big again to keep Ronan’s chances alive, scoring in the paint to force another period.

The Falcons were on the cusp of victory again in the second overtime period with a 66-64 lead and just 38 seconds left, but Clairmont saved the day yet again with another score with 10.6 seconds remaining on the clock to send things to a third period.

Determined not to repeat the last two periods, the Maidens came out strong with Clairmont scoring three times to go up 72-66.

After a Florence score and free throw, Alaina Madsen scored again to make it 74-69.

Florence would fire another shot before all was said and done, but missed and Ronan rebounded the ball before running out the clock and sealing the victory.

In addition to Clairmont, Aspen Jore (16) and Ashleigh Lynch (10) also scored in the double-digits on the night.

Madsen (nine), Brylee Weatherwax (three), Angela North Piegan (two), Kendra Starkel (two), Courtney Taylor (two) and Courtney Clairmont (one) also scored points in the game for Ronan.

Megan Byrne led the Falcons with 17 points, while Cody Miller and Carli O’Brien each scored 11 and Kyndall Hoff notched 10.

On Friday, the Maidens were in control for most of the game before Eureka erupted for a 24-point fourth quarter. Ronan led 27-20 at the half, and 44-28 after the third quarter.

However, the Maidens foiled the Lady Lions’ comeback attempt with steady play, scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter to come out on top 57-52.

Raymi Clairmont had another big night with 14 points in the contest, while Lynch (12) and Courtney Clairmont (10) also posted double-figure point totals.

Weatherwax contributed eight points to the effort, while Jore (four), Madsen (four), Starkel (three) and Taylor (two) also scored for the Maidens.

Eureka was led by Cassidy Morgan’s 16 points, but also had 10 from Alyssa White.
