Warriors falter in loss to Superior, rebound with win over Hot Springs
ARLEE — The Warriors failed to keep their perfect season alive on Friday after a 69-59 loss to Superior, but got right back on the winning track with a 50-46 victory over Hot Springs on Saturday.

On Friday, Arlee would hold a 32-27 first half lead over the Bobcats and kept it all the way up until the fourth quarter, going into the final frame on top 50-46.
However, that’s when Superior’s gargantuan 6-foot-7 Clint Voll took over the game, scoring nine points for the Bobcats in the fourth quarter, matching the Warriors entire team output.
Superior would score 23 points and the victory in the last quarter.
Despite the loss, Arlee was still able to impress with some fine individual performances.
Rocky Lewis led the team with 22 points, hitting six 3-pointers in the contest, and grabbing six boards.
Christian Haynes came just shy of a double-double, dropping 15 points and finishing the night with eight rebounds.
Zack Camel produced six points against the Bobcats, but also turned in nine assists and six steals, while Justin Adams scored five points, hauled in five rebounds and made five steals.
Also scoring points for the Warriors were Josh Reed (five), Isaac Camel (three) and Dom Burland (three).
Along with Voll’s strong outing, the Bobcats also had a big night from Jarrod Tippens, who led the team with 26 points.
Things weren’t looking well early for Arlee on Saturday against Hot Springs either, as the team would score just four points in the first quarter and trailed 11-4.
With a renewed focus, however, the Warriors got back into the game with an 18-point second quarter.
After going into the half down 27-22, Arlee knotted things up at 38-38 before entering the final frame.
In a hard-fought fourth quarter, the Warriors would emerge from the battle victorious after outscoring the Savage Heat 12-8.
Haynes and Reed tied for the team lead with 12 points apiece. Reed was close to a double-double nine boards in the game as well, while Haynes had five rebounds and five steals.
Zack Camel did a little bit of everything for the Warriors, piling up nine points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Meanwhile, Lewis (eight points, four steals), Adams (six points, five rebounds) and Patrick BigSam (three points) also made crucial contributions to the winning effort.
The Savage Heat were lead by Wyatt Nagy (19 points) and Dave Cross (12 points).
GIRLS
ARLEE — After getting off to a rough 0-2 start on the season, the Scarlets picked themselves up from the dirt, shook themselves off, and reeled off two straight wins, topping Superior 62-51 on Friday and Hot Springs 43-22 on Saturday.
On Friday, Arlee gradually built on its lead throughout the game, extending it from 12-11 in the first quarter to 30-26 at the half, and then 45-39 going into the fourth quarter before pulling away.
The Scarlets outscored the Lady Bobcats 17-12 in the final period.
Mahalia Hendren made her impact on the game in a big way, scorching Superior for 24 points, while teammate Whitney Malatare also reached double-figures with a 13-point outing.
Alexis Shick and Violet Pablo pitched in eight points apiece, while Skyla Perry scored six and Tayla Desjarlais notched three.
Nicole Stroot topped Superior with 18 points, while Myranda Kuhl and Kinzie Cooper both scored 11 in the game.
Against Hot Springs, Arlee was in control from the start, building a 15-5 first half lead and never looking back, outscoring the Savage Heat 28-17 in the second half.
Though Hot Springs’ Alyssa Foster would lead all players in the game with 16 points, the team would only have two other players score in the game.
Hendren again topped Arlee with 11 points, while Malatare and Perry were right behind her with nine apiece. Shick (five), Pablo (four), Desjarlais (three) and Tiffany O’Neill (two) also scored in the game.
The Warriors and Scarlets will host Loyola Sacred Heart on Dec. 21, before heading on the road to face St. Regis on Dec. 22.
