Warrior wrestlers put on strong showing in Eureka

EUREKA — The Arlee Warriors wrestling team had a good weekend of wrestling at the Eureka Mixer and the Eureka Buzz Lucy Tournament this past weekend.

EUREKA — The Arlee Warriors wrestling team had a good weekend of wrestling at the Eureka Mixer and the Eureka Buzz Lucy Tournament this past weekend. 

On Friday evening Eureka hosted a mixer with Arlee, Noxon and Plains/Hot Springs. 

The Warriors, as a team wrestled to an 11–3 win-to-loss ratio that night. 

Alex Bertollt, at 152 pounds, wrestled to a 3-0 record that night, beating two opponents from Eureka and one from Noxon. 

Albert Plant, at 160 pounds, went 3-1 for the evening, besting two  competitors  from Noxon and one from Eureka. His only loss of the night came in an exhibition match. 

Daniel Dunlop, at 130 pounds, also posted a 3-1 record by beating opponents from all three towns, Eureka, Noxon and Plains/Hot Springs. Like Plant his only loss of the night came at a heavier weight in an exhibition match. 

Logan Potts got the night off from work to join the team at 285 pounds. Potts went 2-1 for the night, beating competitors from Noxon and Plains, but losing a match to Ben Gorham of Plains in varsity competition.

On Saturday the Warriors participated in the “Buzz Lucy” Memorial Tournament. 

The Warriors as a team went 10-4 for the day, bringing home three medals. 

Albert Plant, at 160 pounds, won three matches on his way to a championship. He bested Polson’s Tel Motichka in an 11-2 decision in the championship to bring home the gold. 

Daniel Dunlop, at 130 pounds, went 3-1 for the day to bring home the silver medal. He pinned three opponents from Columbia Falls, Eureka, and Libby before losing his championship match by pin to Josiah Osborne of Columbia Falls. 

Logan Potts, at 285 pounds, took third place during the day-long competition by beating grapplers from Polson and Glacier High School. Potts’s Consolation final match was won by pin against Whitefish’s Steven Quimby in the second period.

This week the Warriors will be in competition at the Superior Mixer on Friday night against Superior, Thompson Falls and Drummond. Then on Saturday they will be competing in the Mission Tournament.
