Louis “Lou” Edwin Amick

Louis “Lou” Edwin Amick, age 87, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15 at his home in Polson. Lou was born Dec. 4, 1924 in San Antonio, Tex. to Paul Newton Amick and Vivian Lucille Hamilton Amick. Lou married Phyllis Irene Kresge on June 15, 1948. Lou graduated from the University of Colorado in 1946. He received his BA degree with a triple major in chemistry, mathematics, and zoology. He also graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1950 with a professional engineering degree in Petroleum Engineering. Lou worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Texaco Inc. before retiring after 33 ? years. He held the position of Senior Regulatory Compliance Coordinator in Texaco’s Denver Division office. Lou also served on the Environmental Affairs Committee of the Rocky Mountain Oil & Gas Association. He often testified as an expert witness before several different State Oil & Gas Conservation Commissions. Lou was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity at the Colorado School of Mines. Lou’s hobbies in his early years included hunting, fishing, and photography. In his later years he enjoyed puttering, traveling, writing poetry, and corresponding with numerous friends and family members. He invented things that didn’t always work, fixed things that were not always broken, and broke things that needed improvement. Lou is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Paula, Carol, and Teresa; a sister, Joann; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Grogan Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 20 at 1:00 pm. Burial at Lake View Cemetery in Polson.
