RONAN - Against two of the toughest teams the area has to offer, the Ronan Maidens found positives to draw upon, even if the results didn't go their way.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, Ashley Grandchamp scored six points and "Ragin" Raymi Clairmont accounted for the other four, but the Maidens fell to the Class A Polson Lady Pirates 43-10.

"Raymi and Courtney Taylor were great rebounders in that game," Ronan head coach Clayton Curley said.

Despite the low offensive output, the defense was spectacular, especially in the first three quarters, holding Polson to just 28 points over that span. The 43 points scored by the Lady Pirates were seven fewer than Ronan's points allowed average heading into the game.

Later in the week, the Maidens hosted a very talented Loyola team and despite Clairmont's nine points, the offense had trouble scoring again in a 52-14 defeat.

"Our rebounding was much better," Curley said. "We were beat by 23 possessions last time against Loyola. Our defense was better and our discipline was better. We just need to find a way to make shots."

Courtney Clairmont and Ashleigh Lynch each put in two, while Brianna Frank added one for Ronan.

The Breakers stormed to a 17-4 lead after one and upped it to 28-4 by halftime, but Ronan's offense was able to score a bit more in the second half, including seven points in the final stanza.

The defense was great again, holding Loyola to 10 fewer points than in their first meeting.

"We had more possessions than them, 63-60, meaning we outrebounded them," Curley said.

After two home games, the Maidens will stay in town again this weekend, hosting Deer Lodge on Thursday, Feb. 2 and Troy for Senior Night on Saturday, Feb. 4.

"We're still improving in a few aspects," Curley said. "We just need to keep our heads up."

The Maidens will look to avenge a 59-26 loss to Deer Lodge earlier in the year and will also look to build on their 40-36 victory at Troy on Jan. 7.
