By the time this issue comes out it will be February already — the shortest month follows the (seemingly) longest. I loved February when teaching third graders, there was so much to enrich the curriculum — President’s Day, Groundhog’s Day, Black History Month, Children’s Dental Health Month, and my favorite school party — Valentine’s Day. The students would sit and giggle and share their favorites. Why not surprise and please a senior with a card, a treat, an outing... even a call, just to say you enjoy them in your life. Guaranteed to cheer the giver and the receiver.
Our next monthly flea market will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. We’ve had vendors from Arlee, Plains and around the Mission Valley, as well as from Dixon. Tables can be reserved by calling 246-3526 or 246-3271. Come enjoy some social browsing!
Dixon center meals are served at 5 p.m. every Monday and at noon on Thursdays. Please come join us — all ages are welcome. Take some home for another meal.
Thursday, Feb. 2 lasagna; Monday, Feb. 6 baked fish; Thursday, Feb. 9 elk roast; Monday, Feb. 16 teriyaki meat balls.
The traveling pinochle players meet at Dixon on the fourth Monday at 1:30 p.m. Come enjoy meeting other seniors in a fun activity. Our next date for Dixon will be Monday, Feb. 27. The results from the last session are Don Siers came in high scorer, Low was Grace Sager. Grace Ingraham won the door prize and Ester Bick had the most double pinochles.
Ronan
Today has been one of those days. I think that Friday the 13th arrived a couple of weeks late this time. Hopefully, things will be back to normal by Monday. At least January is over with, and we are one month closer to spring. I am ready for the flowers to start blooming again.
We served 87 people for our birthday dinner last Friday and delivered 21 meals to home-bound seniors. There were 16 people here for the card party on the 15th, and lunch was served by Ruby Mocabee. Darlene Salomon had high score, Grace Ingraham had low score, Marie Cowen had the most pinochles and door prize was won by Ruby Mocabee.
The next card party in Ronan will be on Feb. 6, and again on the 20th. During the winter months, they have changed the time to 1:30. Our monthly board meeting will be on Monday the 6th at 10 a.m.
It’s almost time for our evening meal again. We will be serving pork roast this month on the 9th. The time, as usual, is from 5 p.m. until 6:30. Come on in and join us for a great meal. The veterans rep will also be here that afternoon from 1-3 p.m.
Need your taxes done? The AARP reps will be here on Fridays, from now until the 15th of April. Give us a call at 676-2371 and we will set up an appointment for you. This is a free service offered to all of Lake County seniors and the reps are at the different centers during the week.
The Foot Clinic will be here Wednesday, the 15th, from 10:30 until noon. Give me a call and I will put your name on the list. A big “get well” to our members who have been been either home-bound or in the hospital because of illness.
Our menu for the next week is: Wednesday (1st) is pizza, Friday (3rd) is barbecue meatballs, Monday (6th) is salad bar, Wednesday (8th) is salmon loaf and Thursday (9th) is pork roast. Come on in and enjoy a great meal with us, we will be glad that you did (and I’m sure that you will be, too.)
Have a great week.
