GB: Scarlets win in OT

overtime as the Arlee Scarlets withstood a stiff test on the road,

defeating the Mission Lady Bulldogs 63-54.

ST. IGNATIUS - Whitney Malatare scored five of her 16 points in overtime as the Arlee Scarlets withstood a stiff test on the road, defeating the Mission Lady Bulldogs 63-54.

Mahalia Hendren and Alexis Shick also scored 16 points for the Scarlets, as they outscored Mission 11-2 in the fifth quarter for the win.

The Lady Bulldogs' Bryanna Steele led all scorers with 21 points, including a three-pointer with under a minute remaining to send the game to overtime.

The Scarlets led at halftime 21-20 in a back-and-forth half that featured six ties. Mission rallied to take a 29-26 to open the third quarter, but Arlee closed the frame with an 11-3 run to take a 37-32 lead. They would increase the edge to six on two occasions, but the Lady Bulldogs fought back behind three late layups from Cecelia Koskela to stay within striking distance.

Steele's three sent the game to OT, but Malatare answered with one of her own to open the extra period and it would stand as the game-winner.

Tiffany O'Neill contributed six points for the Scarlets, while Jenna Pablo added four. Violet Pablo and Desirae Nault each added a bucket and Bailey Rice hit a free throw for Arlee to cap their scoring.

Loren Erickson hit double digits for the Lady Bulldogs with 11, including nine in the second half, while Stephanie Lewandowski added seven, Cecelia Koskela six and Twyla Hogge four for Mission. Sahriah Camacho with three and Haley O'Hern with two, tallied for Mission.
