RONAN — Eli Manning and the Giants weren’t the only team to score big on Super Bowl Sunday, 2012.

Ronan’s Bread Basket, whose shelves were empty before the game, scored as well. The Ronan Seventh-day Adventist Church held its Third Annual Souper-Bowl competition. According to Russ Jenkins, community outreach coordinator at the church, the winning score between the downstairs class captained by Kevin Adams and the upstairs class led by Dale Jackson was 1,500 cans to 700 cans totaling a final score of 2,200 cans of soup kicked over the end zones and dropped onto the empty shelves of Ronan’s Bread Basket. Our local families in need of extra help are the real winners of this game!

Sheri McDonald, Bread Basket director, visited the church where the 2,200 cans of soup were piled high in front of the pulpit.

“This gift couldn’t have come at a better time,” she beamed.

The Methodist and Faith Luthern Churches also held Souper-Bowl competitions this year. All three churches are encouraging other Mission Valley churches to join them in the fun and to participate in Souper-Bowl 2013.
