Judy (Black) Wolfe-Hopfinger, 72, passed away on

Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 due to the affects of ALS.

Judy was born July 23, 1939 in Polson, Mont., the

first of four children in the family of “Buck” and Mary Black. Judy

attended school in Polson and graduated from Polson High School in

1957. She graduated from Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., in 1959.

Then she earned a B.S. Pharmacy degree from the University of

Montana in 1962.

Judy had a love of horses that started with the gift

of Pepper a pinto from her Grandma Fierce. Her love of horses led

her to take a leave of absence from her position of Director of

Pharmacy at St. Peters Hospital in Helena, Mont. With her

two-year-old quarter horse, Cajun Devil, she headed to the quarter

horses tracks of the Northwest – Washington, Idaho, Montana and

Wyoming.

At the track, she met Johnny Hopfinger. Together they

trained and raced quarter horses in Washington, Idaho, Montana,

Wyoming and Colorado. They moved to Yakima, Wash., and Judy

returned to pharmacy. They started raising and showing boer goats.

Judy served several years on the board of directors of the National

Boer Goat Association. Judy and Johnny moved to Sutherlin, Ore. in

2009.

Judy is survived by brothers, Laird (Ronnie) Black,

Dr. Fred (Karolyn) Black of Roseburg, Ore.; sister, Mary

(GreyEagle) Calanche of Dayton, Wash., and her husband, Johnny

Hopfinger of Sutherlin. Also several nieces and nephews.
