Happy, warm, New Year, everyone! I appreciate the good driving conditions, but if there’s going to be a real winter, bring it on and get it over with. I’m waiting for winter birds, which must be finding other food for the present. Just a flock of multi-variety little brown birds have found my feeders, plus one lonesome dove and a flicker.
How about all the attention our little town received in the news, because of the recent 3.2 earthquake! The TV interview with locals, plus camera scenes of the town was even posted on Facebook for distant friends to see. At first I thought it was one of the heavy trains shaking the ground and coming to a stop. It confirms that our post office is important as a place to meet neighbors and check out the happenings. The latest word is nothing will be done toward its possible closure until mid-May.
Dixon seniors are again planning for our Saturday, Jan. 21, second monthly Flea Market. Watch for flyers reminding you to make a trek our way, come for chili lunch, and peruse some possible new treasures. Call Delene at 246-3271 or Joey at 246-3526 for a reservation. This is a good time to dig out your no-longer-used items — they may be just what someone could use!
Welcome to the latest member of our town — little Clem William Cole joined the Boone and Mary Cole family on Dec. 20. Sharon Cole is the proud grandmother. I can vouch that he is a keeper (Sharon may be prejudiced). He is named for his very special great-grandparent, a long-time resident of Dixon.
We’ve been treated to the fragrance of home-baked bread as we come to join in meals at the center. There’s nothing like fresh rolls and bread to complement a delicious meal. Come check it out! Meals are served Mondays at 5 p.m. and at noon on Thursdays. Any age is welcome.

Have a great week, and remember: the best gift to give the person who has everything is a calendar to remind them when the payments are due.
